Long M10x1.5 bolts will do the trick. I just went to the hardware store and picked some up. No problems at all, no need to spend a ridiculous amount on bolts.

I use AC Delco stands as well, but I forget how long my bolts were. 5" or thereabouts. It's easier to buy "too long" and shim (using washers, big nuts, whatever), than it is to buy "too short" and be out some threads.

Starter bolts work great. I have a few of them saved up over the years. I use a lug nut on each one to act like a "washer" to keep the bolt from bottoming out in the block before getting tight, works good.

Default Engine stand question.

When mounting the LS1 engine to an engine stand do I have to remove the entire transmission (T56) from the engine? Meaning, can I leave the bell housing attached to the block and just attach the stand to where the transmission bolts up to the bell housing? I would like to leave the bell housing, flywheel and PP in place for now. I don't want to damage anything by supporting the engine this way. I hope this is not too stupid a question!

^^ I would like to know too. Would rather not have to remove clutch disc/PP...

I would remove the bellhousing yes. If not you are pushing the weight of the engine further away from the stand, possibly throwing the stand off balance, and over-stressing the bolts causing a possible bolt failure. Too much to risk IMO.

Absolutely remove the bell housing. I dont think its strong enough to support the entire weight of the engine. Depending on the stand you may be able to get away with leaving the clutch setup on but if not remove it. The last thing you want is replacing the oil pan and whatever else breaks(or whoever is falls on) because you didnt wanna remove a few bolts.
