Default Opinions on this welder

1. budget
2. only regular outlets at my house..no 220
3. beginner

I've search around here and I know the main 3 brand that everyone likes. Also, I've seen people mentioning a Lincoln 135 welder, but not sure if that is an older model.

What is your opinion on this?

Obviously, that is a cheap looking "helmet"..hah

You'll want to keep that helmet for tight places if you upgrade. I can't help with your questions, sorry.

looks fine for what you need, but invest in a auto dimming helmet and dont try to weld with the flux core wire. use the gas attachment and mig wire

I would not redomend buying a welder from lowes or home depot. The Lincoln machines that they sell are built in poland and other countries. Parts and service for these are much harder to obtain.

You will pay more, but you will be much happier if you get a Lincoln 140C

I very highly recommend a weldmark/hobart handler 140 - 110v. Ive used the **** out of mine for years with no issues on tons of roll cages, fabrication, exhaust etc.

Ive got 2 snap on mig welders and they work excellent despite their age, I dont know if you can find one now though. The helmet looks like ****, get an auto dark one. Ive used the old style ones and i have no idea how my father used them, haha im spoiled. I have a chicago electric that i got from... i think harbor freight or northen tools and equipment... i dont remember. Good helmet for the price.

I think for what you are doing, you can get a hobart 140 for the same price or less. The great thing about hobart is it is made by miller and parts are everywhere. I TIG/ and MIG weld for a living, and I tried the small 140 hobart and was impressed how great it work for a cheaper welder. Just a tip when you use smaller welders, make sure to use the shortest and biggest gauge cord you can find so you do not get a voltage fluctuation or surge in power while welding. Especially when doing roll cages.

Old post.

I bought a Hobart Handler 187 and an extension cord. I just use the dryer outlet when welding..

And in reply to Killjoy, I bought the auto-dark helmet from Harbor Freight, but it takes too long to switch. For a split second I can see the arc then it changes. I've just been closing my eyes when I strike the arc, but eventually I will probably go for one of the high dollar helmets. Hopefully they can switch faster.
