Best LIGHT for Engine Compartment Work?
clamp lamps, Wal-Mart sells 'em cheap and I have
120V power handy.
Been thinking of converting one of the trouble
lights, to a cig lighter plug and using a 12V 50W
RV bulb in it (got half a dozen of said bulbs, on
close-out). More light (but more amps) than a
stick light.
If you were inclined to take the stick light apart
and spread, or add LEDs, you might be able to
get the kind of coverage you like (sacrificing run
time, if you add parallel strings)
I just use the convential style and couldn't be happer.

Wal-Mart $5.99 trouble lights and a spare set of
battery clamps I had in the junk boxes, cut the
plug off and soldered on the clamps and put one
of the 12V 50W RV bulbs in there. Works like a
champ. Total cost under $10, if I had to buy the
clamps then maybe $14 or so. Hey, it works (pics).
3 ft. bulb completely housed. back part was blocked so it didn't blind me looking in. I like to have one on each side of the engine, made great light.
