Question Best LIGHT for Engine Compartment Work?

I have one of those rechargeable LED 4ft light you hang under your hood and it works pretty good but the light beam is more of a focused beam rather than spread out all over, so my question is, what lights do you guys find the best to work in or on your engine bays?

I just have a large collection of trouble lights and
clamp lamps, Wal-Mart sells 'em cheap and I have
120V power handy.

Been thinking of converting one of the trouble
lights, to a cig lighter plug and using a 12V 50W
RV bulb in it (got half a dozen of said bulbs, on
close-out). More light (but more amps) than a
stick light.

If you were inclined to take the stick light apart
and spread, or add LEDs, you might be able to
get the kind of coverage you like (sacrificing run
time, if you add parallel strings)

Rhino brand makes a good under the hood light. The only place I know that sells them is ACE tool co. So probably oe of your local tool trucks may have them. I sold a pantload of them when I ran a truck. they retail for about 89 bux and have a 4 ft floresent light. The cool part about them is that they have 3 diffrent attachments. One is an AC adaptor to plug in the wall, a cigirate lighter adaptor, adn aligator clips to clip on to 12 volts. Ive had mine for a year and a half and have put 1 bulb in it cause i dropped it. It beats the hell out of the Matco brand i sold a few of for 250 bux.

I tend to stay away from LED drop lights. The one and only one I bought ended up snapped in half and in the garbage can in about 3 hours. Hated that damn thing. The light beam is so focused that I was constantly shifting it to point the light where I wanted it to go, it's like using a freaking flashlight as a droplight. Pissed me off in a hurry.

I just use the convential style and couldn't be happer.

the only LEd light that I have liked enough to buy one is the Freedom light. They are kinda pricey but they are tough as hell. The battery and light board hold up good

Question

No its definitely not a Rhino light, it is a nice light but not what I was looking for BUT the more I look on the Internet the more I think Rhino may have been bought out by them, I cannot find any reference to anyone selling these anymore? Can you?

So I got around to doing it, took one of my grungy
Wal-Mart $5.99 trouble lights and a spare set of
battery clamps I had in the junk boxes, cut the
plug off and soldered on the clamps and put one
of the 12V 50W RV bulbs in there. Works like a
champ. Total cost under $10, if I had to buy the
clamps then maybe $14 or so. Hey, it works (pics).

I have a couple like 3 foot fluorescent light bulbs, we got them all the time for movie displays at my work. I know not ideal, crash resistant but they are roughly durable, dropped them a few times never broke one.

3 ft. bulb completely housed. back part was blocked so it didn't blind me looking in. I like to have one on each side of the engine, made great light.
