I am getting ready to ship out my SBC 406. I want to get any ideas on how to go about crating it where it is secure and will be safe.
My Ideas so far...
Buy a Engine Cradle and bolt that up to the motor, then set it on a pallet and bolt it down. get two Industrial plastic straps and strap the motor down. 1 strap over the front and the other over the back.
I dont have motor mounts. Otherwise I was going to get 2 2x4's and use them to bolt the motor mounts to once the motor was on the pallet.
I am looking for cheap, effectiveness. The buyer wil be paying for anything i have to buy. I want to keep it as cheap as possible.
bring me some ideas.

Sounds like you have the best idea to do it already. Go to Harbor Freight if there is one near you and get the engine cradle. I`ve shipped 2 motors and your method would be the best way to do it.

i just set the motor down on a hd pallet and chock it so it sits level. then cut up some flat steel stock, bend and drill holes in it. bolt the 4 steel straps to the holes on the bell flange, and the front of the heads. then use big (1/2) wood screws on the bottom to go into the pallet. then completely plastic wrap it.

Call around some of the GM dealers and see if they have any crates laying around from engine swaps they may have just done. I know someone that did this and the GM dealer just gave them the engine crate for free. Just another idea and cheap
