To me, the best idea is to find the best price you can online and then take it in to your LWS and see how close they can come. They might not be able to match it on the equipment(online places deal in a LOT more volume), but they may be able to hook you up on gas prices and service in the future. Depending on how much you weld, it can pay off very quickly to have that relationship.

That's true. I still used an air cooled torch. There have been a few times doing al that I wish I had a water cooled torch, but I get by for now.

I would call Bob @ B & R Welder before you buy anything. I went to school with the owners and they sell for less than cost. Dynasty 200dx

I learned on a synchrowave in school, I have an HTP invertig 201 now. Works great, small, light, not too expensive. I have a few friends using them daily with no problems at all. I got it because the comparably priced millers (at the time) didn't have nearly as many features or did aluminum.

those miller maxstars are pretty cool, and they can weld up to 3/16 in a 110.

Youll like the watercooled... the torch head is tiny and can get into all the tough spots.

Sorry I didnt get back to you on a price - ive been swamped here.

water-cooled is the only way to go. the dry rig torches are monstrous. they work, but you WILL find a joint you can't get to without a smaller torch, so the water cooled is the only way to go.

Default Finally took the plunge

I have been using a MIG for the last 15 years. I finally took the plunge and decided to try a relatively new TIG unit. Chinese assembled and the simple parts are Chinese, but the power modules are high end, Siemens and the chips are high end too. It's comparable to the Miller Dynasty 200. Comes with the foot pedal, torch, regulator and everything else other than the consumables. 250amps at 35%DC, 60amps plasma cutter and has all the good controls except spot timer.
I will do a writeup on it after I get it set up.

There is a video on youtube of a guy taking his and bashing it with a sledgehammer. Couldnt get parts for it, it was like a year old and had arc issues since day 1....
