Default Problem with Air compressor 50gal

My neighbor just gave me this for free and I'm trying to think what happened to it. He said he had it in a closet and may have over heated cause there wasnt any fans in there. Supposedly the oil went thru the tube I circled and into the tank. Did a ring burn up or something?

take the belt off and see if the motor starts and if the compressor spins.

You can buy a new head unit for that and set it on the tank if you have to.
If the electric motor isn't working, don't forget about the red reset button. Make sure the contactor is closing if it has one. and check the pressure switch

What you circled is the exhaust. Its a copper air line. It just like an engine. In your picture, the intake comes in the right side of the head, and the pressured exhaust comes out the left side and travels down to the tank. The oil sits in the belly (notice the sight window) and lubes the crank as it spins. I dont believe it has an oil pump.

oh ok I see now thank you!.. Welp it spins freely and is not frozen in anyway. So the only way for the oil to get into the tank would be for it to get past the piston and then get forced out the exhaust/into the tank?

Yes that or someone put it there
There will be a small amount of oil getting by. The valves and springs in the valve plate need to be LIGHTLY lubricated as well. Easiest way to test whats wrong is to plug it in. If nothing happens when you send it power, either the pressure switch is bad or the motor is bad...

ok, so say it runs but is pushing some oil out the exhaust.. then the ring is fried or isnt sealing? Cause i dont think anything catastrophic happened, i think he just stopped running it cause oil was getting in the tank and got a new one.. Some people can afford to do that with an almost brand new compresser i guess... just set it aside and give it to someone like me for free

Yeah, you just need rings. All compressors blow oil out, the worse your rings get, the more oil comes out.
