Default Fluid transfer pump?

Hey guys,

Where can I get a pump for transferring fluids? You know, for filling the tranny, the rear end, for draining the PS reservoir, that kinda thing. I've seen em with bulbs or with little bicycle jack lookin things, but now that I need one I can't find one! Argh! I found a cheap one at autozone that doesn't do squat (it was like $5, and doesn't work at all). Checked harbor freight...nothing. Doesn't have to be fancy, just for doing the tasks that I outlined.

Sears sells one that hooks up to your air compressor. I think it's called the Mightvac or something.

Eastwood who is a sponsor has the Mityvacs but you need the kit to transfer fluids. This tool has been worth every cent and more than paid for itself.http://www.eastwood.com/email/defaul...geName=default

There used to be a "Jackrabbit" pump that worked
with peristaltic rollers on clear tubing. I found it a
bit flimsy (orange plastic) but it worked for a while.
Also I got a big suction gun, like a 1-liter syringe
which is pretty good and plenty tough (steel
cylinder, O-rings on piston). It will draw or push,
just a manual piston. The Mityvac won't help you
push, only draw fluid.

Whether it was drawing or displacing it doesn't matter. It takes 80w out of the bottle and continuously deposits it in the rear end, or tranny fluid out of the bottle and continuously deposits it to the tranny, etc. Any fluid you want moved from one location to another, no problem.

Unfortunately I have no air tools or a garage to put them in. Has to be manual or electric. Damn.

Hmm nevermind, looks like the Mityvac is manually operated. Sweet. They have a brake bleeding kit too, that's nice. Anyone ever used it? Is it effective on our ABS cars? Looks like it would take a lot of hassle out of bleeding the brakes.

68LSS1, when displacing fluid, can you use it to draw from any container or do you have to pour it into that 'attached' little bottle first?

Also, should I get the regular Mityvac test kit or the Plus kit? Any useful extras with the Plus kit? Description was vague.

For pumping fluids (differential / manual trans) I bought a pump that screws onto any 1 gallon container (like 1 gallon of gear oil) and you just pump the fluid.. I bought it at pep poys.. It's great.... cheap though.. plastic. I've used it many many times though and still works great.

For P/S fluid or Auto trans fluid I use a suction gun like mentioned by jimmyblue. You can also use it for the rear or manual trans but I prefer my pep boys plastic pump. Less messy.

Here's the Pep-boys pump I have:

Which I found online here

Here's the suction gun:

With a long hose you can stick it down an Auto Transmission dip stick tube and suck out some fluid in case you overfill it
