Default Template for porting heads?

doing a cam swap on my lt1 (on a budget) soon. wondering if gm or anyone makes a template to help with porting heads? dont really have the money to have them sent out, and this would be my first port job so i'd like to have a guideline to kinda follow.

huh... I've got a set torn down to do the same right now, but mine are staying small valve...

Most machine shops that do porting have them aluminum plates that bolt to the intake face. I dont know where you can get them, best thing would be to call a few machine shops and ask them where they get them from. But that is not going to give you how much material you can remove from the runner it self, that just gives you the port opening.

right, i'm looking for something to actually fit down in the runner. i know that mopar makes them (my buddy has built a few 440's and ported his own heads using something such as this), so i figured that GM did also. maybe this is a thread that belongs in a different section? i figured more ppl would have responded to this.

Here is a hint,take one of the heads to a near by machine shop and tell them what you want to do and ask on how to clean up the ruff and over casting and how to smooth out the ports valve pockets and around valve steam bosses and you can easy odd power and torq with your own tools, just be sure to stay off and don't touch valve seat then find out how to re seal the valves on their seats and you even end up with your own valve job...
