Default any plans/dims for a DIY engine dolly?

I'm looking for plans/ dims to build me own engine dolly,
I need something to roll my 5.3 around the garage until I get to do my swap, want something low to the ground and stable, or is there a cheap one available?

I'm sure that would work for something temporary, but it would not be as stable as I'd like, and definitely not the tightest for storage...

thanks though

something along the lines of this is what I was thinking

guess it's simple enough now that I have a pic I can come up with something in the garage, using some scrap square tube, chop saw, and the welder...

I know what your were thinking and was only half joking. For storing an engine works really well as long as the pan is on it and costs nothing if you have it around. If you leave the stock manifolds on its really stable for storing. Youd have to shove it pretty hard to knock it over. But the actual dollies are pretty cheap, Idk why youd try to make one for the price. Or buy an engine stand so you can store it and work on it as you please.

manifolds are off,
I was hoping to store it under a bench, with a tire it isn't going to fit,
the ones like I posted for an LS motor are more like $100,
I have a regular engine stand but they are not stable for moving around a lot,
plus they dont' fit under benches nicely

that's all I got LOL

oh yeah, and I have lots of square tube laying around, a welder, and a couple sets of wheels that would work on something like this, but doing a google search I did come across another cheap method of using a furniture dolly and other scrap wood, and HF has furniture dollies on sale for $13, so that might be a good cheap route

Could just make a wood frame for the engine to sit perfectly in outta scrap 2x4's then securely mount it to a furniture dolly. Or add your own casters to it.

Some LS1 engine cradles under $100

There's another site I knew of that sells them for a nice price, but I drawing a blank right now on the name of the site. I thought they were a sponsor here.

ya furniture dollys is what we used with the tire. if you get creative im sure you can make a decent one out of nothing but 2x4s or tubing and a few wheels from home depot. post up what you make, Id be curious to see it

Cool

I have bought over 15 sets of ls1 motor feet from Alan combs. Powder coating is excellent and I live close to him so I get them anytime I need them.

I use wheel dollies with a few 2x4s under the front of the pan to level it out and a ratchet strap over the top to keep it from tipping

I hadn't thought of addign the ratchet strap for stability, I like it, and I just got a new add from HF for a $9 furniture dolly, hopefully I'll have the motor rolling around soon.

thanks

I also found this...

HP furniture dolly wheels suck. I tried them and they are horrible and tippy with a narrow stance.

We use to use the bottom half of a shopping cart with a few pieces of scrap for support on SBC's....sure you could mod one to suit

I've used 2 Harbor Freight furniture dollies to store/move around a ls1/4l60e dropout.

$14 for both
