Socket and wrench rust removal?
zinc bath, but this is liable to produce uneven results -
plating will throw harder against the bright areas than
the oxidized. You might like "killed spirits" plumbing
flux as a bath, ZnCl+HCl will go to town on the rust.
A car battery charger with a light bulb for current
limiting (or a current controlled charger) will do for
power. A zinc anode from a marine store is cheap. The
target pieces, you could bag up with a wire snaked
through / around them and do it bulk style, pulling
and shaking the bag every so often. An agitator for
the bath is important, a cheap aquarium bubbler or
a low speed motorized stirrer would probably do. Just
have to keep thinngs from stagnating.
Now the other alternative is to mechanically clean
them as good as you can, and go the other way -
black oxide anodize the iron. That, as I recall, wants
a H2SO4 bath and workpiece positive.
