Tipsy I think you are correct. Everything I looked up suggested the same. If I get a chance later I will double check but cross reference on Fumoto states M12 x 1.75 as well.

I installed my cam about a year ago and left the rockers off so the engine wouldn't sit for a prolonged time with the springs compressed. I spent most of today attempting to install the rockers and to verify that 7.4" pushrods are correct, based on the number of turns it takes to achieve 22 ft lbs from zero lash (see my thread here).

The engine has been sitting for more than two years and I decided I'd try getting some oil in the valvetrain. I ran into town and picked up a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauge. Good thing I already had an

sitting in the parts pile.

Everything worked just fine, except I made a bit of a mess. Oil leaked from where the hose attached to the oil filter nipple and also through the holes in the crankshaft flange (those crank flange holes are open to the oiling system when there are no flywheel bolts installed, correct?)

I barely used two quarts before I decided that was adequate. As reported by the OP, you can easily exceed 60 PSI. I stopped several times (partly to manage the leaking oil) and rotated the crankshaft. This definitely helped and I pumped several times until oil was confirmed flowing from each pushrod as witnessed on each rocker. At one point, oil shot a few feet across the garage!

Simple method. Works well. Thanks for the tip.

Hey guys,
I just tried this method and failed. I feel like I got a different oil pan or I'm missing something here. If you look at the image below, there's a hole next to the oil filter threads (by the red dot). When I pump the oil, it just drains out of that hole. I would really appreciate some help ASAP as I'm trying to get my engine started tomorrow.

Where are you connected to pump oil into the engine? The oil is draining out of the inlet to the filter from the oil pump. Do you have the oil diverter installed in the oil galley from the rear of the block? If so, oil is just getting past the diverter and you will have to plug the hole where oil is leaking.

Or, put a filter on the pan and use the oil galley inlet on the side of the block to pump oil into.

Worked like a charm once i plugged the hole with a rag and a rubber glove. The pump pretty much exploded as I was finishing up. I sure hope no plastic went into the oil. Wish me luck with the start

Damn. How long and how fast did you spin it? I used one for quite a while to drain fuel from my tank and it worked like a charm with no issues.

I think the pump was defective because it was making a cracking noise from the start. I used a regular hand drill on medium speed for just over a minute. We're you guys getting a steady 45 psi? Mine kept jumping between 35-55, which I also feel like it was due to the pump being faulty.

I haven't done mine yet so can't comment on pressure but definitely didn't have any issues or noises pumping fuel.

resurrecting this thread, because I used the search feature...

I have an 03 Lq4 that has the oil cooler lines on it. could I just hose clamp to those to force oil back into the engine?

I have a GM crate ls3, can I do this drill pump thing but through the oil port on the front of the block by the pump? Engine already in car.

Yes. Run the inlet to the front port and draw from the pan.
