GM MDI vs. Tech 2
I have a buddy that wants to buy my tech 2. Im thinking about selling it to him and buying the GM MDI setup. I have a few questions for those that know.
1) Will I need a subscription to use the MDI?
2) Will I be able to scan and tune without a subscription?
3) should I sell my tech 2 and buy a MDI?
4) are they cloning GM MDI's or are all the GM MDI's I see for sale the real deal?
I have zero experience with the GM MDI so any education is very much appreciated.

gds2 (newer diagnostic application for global a cars and up) and sps (reflashing)

i also use tech2win and gds2 and gm sps frequently using a cardaq-m interface
if you wanted a way to access tech2win and gds2 and sps (for factory flash updates) the cheapest way currently is the mongoose gm 2 interface by drewtech ($495 iirc)
however you will still need a subscription for the desired function
here's a link to the subscription price list

my guess is after you see the prices you will want to hold on to your tech 2 even tighter

I've used the MDI with GDS 2 extensively. It's really slick and I like it a lot. One nice thing about it, is if you are diagnosing something and recording data you can export it right to a file that can be opened in MS Excel. So you can send that file to somebody to help troubleshoot even if they don't have an MDI interface and GDS2 system. I prefer the MDI to other manufacturer's internal tools. The actual OEM blue box is made by ETAS (a division of Bosch) and you should see the log on the box. That being said, the real MDI is easy to find. It's not like you're buying a BMW service tool or something.
