Default Air Compressor Opinions

I finally have my new shop and am getting ready to buy a compressor. I'm looking seriously at the Quincy 5hp, 60 gallon, 2 stage and the Bellaire 5hp,80 gallon 2 stage. Is anyone familiar with either of these and have some opinions??? The Bellaire is a little more expensive and has a little more cfm. I'd appreciate any opinions.

I love both of my ingersol rand compressors. What is your budget and what is your desired capacity in scfm at 90 psi? That is the question you need to be asking.

Both of these are within my budget, around 1500. I think 14CFM or above will meet my needs.

Quincy and Bellaire are good units. Also look at Puma. They've got a 5hp 80 gal two stage that puts out 18cfm at 90psi in your price range. They're great bang for the buck. I've got a single stage 60 gal Puma and it's awesome for a single stage.....12cfm @ 90 and pump only turns 975rpm (super quiet).

I wasted $750 on a junk sanborn 80 gallon single stage from Menards. Pump couldnt stay together.

pretty much gave it away and bought this 2 stage Chicago pneumatic a few years ago and love it. Not one issue out of it and it supplie a ton of air. quiet and smooth running also.

In a situation like that, I would have kept the sanborn and just used it with the new compressor for extra capacity.....as long as you had room.

I sold it for $350 or $400. I would rather not have kept it around and kept messing with it. My new compressor puts out more then enough air for my needs.

I have the 60 gallon Quincy. It's super quiet and efficient but it does run a lot especially while blasting. It has more than enough *** for my two car garage, but in a shop I'd buy one of quincys larger compressors.

I have this one http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/...or/p12330.html

The two stage may work a little better, but an extra 20 gallons on the tank size would be nice.

What is it being used for? Simple air tools? Will you use it to paint?

I got a 30 gallon Craftsman compressor as a wedding gift and my only complaint about it is that it is LOUD. I honestly have to put ear plug in to use it in my 2 car garage with the door closed (due to the cold).

I only use it for simple air tools and it has been fine.

Belt driven with cast iron cylinders at least. Direct drive anything is noisey and junk to me.

I also have this compressor, it's great but I have been less than enthused with Quincy's customer service. I don't expect to ever replace it but if the time comes, I think I'll look elsewhere.

Ive got a husky 60. Its your run of the mill nothing fancy. It has been dead reliable and I work it pretty regularly. Wont fit the bill for heavy jobs like extended blasting, sanding or painting.

Has anyone had any experience with the 80 gallon 2 stage us general unit from harbor freight? apparently the tank and motor are american, pump is italian, and the pressure switch is german. I looked at it in person and it seemed pretty decent especially for the money.

Update on my 30gal Craftsman oil less...the piston seal **** the bed. There was a 1/4" chunk missing so it wouldn't pump more than 40lbs in the tank.

Had new cylinder, piston and o rings within a week and it's back up and running. Still loud though It was a $350 compressor about 4 years ago. For that reason I couldn't afford to junk it and buy a oil one. Unless the tank rusts out, or electric motor stops working, I'll keep fixing it.
