Cordless Impact Wrench
I have had my 18v Makita 1/2 cordless for about 9 years. Only problem I have had is the light stays on when not pressing the trigger. I just take the battery out. One of the best investments I have made in a tool.
Milwaukee fuel 1/2" and 3/8 is what I use and I also have a Bosch and Dewalt 3/8 and the they rarely get used.
I used to have all Dewalt...Drills/Sawzall/Impacts and so on but switched to Milwaukee a few years ago, I only wish I'd done it sooner.

Grainger has a deal on the 1/2" Cordless Impact Wrench Kit, 18.0 Voltage, 1400 ft.-lb. Max. Torque, Battery Included $249+Tax, It doesn't come with a charger but if you PM me proof that you bought it I'll send you a brand new charger for just the cost of shipping, I have several more than I need.
That impact will take some restraint, It will snap bolts easily.

The medium torque will do just about anything car related and the 1,400ftlb model is way more than you need but who doesn't like more power lol
It's interesting that you bring up the Kobalt ones. I have been looking at them as a cheaper alternative. Has anyone actually used these? If so, what's your opinion? I'll probably get the Milwaukee High Torque ones if no one has used them.
Similar to the Kobalt one, I have a Black & Decker 1/4" drive version. When I did the headers and rockers on my LS2 it was great to run all those repetitive bolts in and out. I didn't use it to tighten anything down, I did that all by hand. Couldn't use it everywhere, but could use it on about 50% of the bolts I had to mess with. But for light duty work, it works great. It is also fairly compact which is helpful. I chose the B&D because I like their products and I already had 3-4 other tools that use the same batteries. This thing is not going to take off lugnuts torqued to 100 lb/ft, but for most medium to small engine fasteners it works just fine. (And I prefer to do lugs by hand anyway!) And when needed, I have a Craftsman 1/2" drive corded impact.
If you work on your car a lot, Milwaukee fuel M18 is worth every penny, don't cheap out. My 3/8" is a beast, it has plenty of power to actually be useful, unlike some of the cheaper ones.
Also they are durable, mine has been through hell and back with 2 frame off restorations, working on a 3rd one. Got soaked in brake fluid, dropped many many times, dropped in a pan full of oil, and it still works fine. One of my 4.0 batteries split open when I dropped it, I just taped it back together and it works. Milwaukee makes a damn good product.
Also it has 3 settings for the torque output, which is nice.

Milwaukee 2767 1/2" M18 fuel.
Also, get the M12 fuel 3/8 ratchet and the non-fuel 1/4" ratchet. The reason for the non-fuel 1/4" is that its head is smaller and you can get it into tighter spots. You'll wonder how you ever worked without them.

I have the Dewalt 20V Max XR Brushless 1/2 Which is a beast and 1/4.
They work fantastic.
I've used Milwalkees at work and Dewalts. They can do the exact same thing just choose which colors you like best. Yellow and black or red and black.
My brother buys a lot of Kolbalt power tools and I have been very impressed with what it can do. We've done some heavy duty jobs and his stuff hung with my pricey Dewalts which mean Milwalkees too.
I like how Millwalkee comes with better cases and storage containers. Fyi

I love Milwaukee corded power tools and recently started buying RIGID for their lifetime warranty. I’d try Kobalt, Dewalt or Milwaukee on my next purchase of lithium cordless gun or ratchet.
the best deals are Black Friday deals. The stores have GREAT deal in them then

I use the Snap on 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch stuff and have been impressed with all of them.
A lot of guys I work with use the Milwaukee M18 stuff and seem super happy with those too.
Battery technology has come so far in the past several years, "almost" any decent brand is going to work well.
But after a certain price point, regardless of what name/color is on the tool, it's the same.

I have a Makita XDT16 and Makita XWT08. The XDT16 has a 1/4" shank and is very compact, which makes it great for tight areas. The XWT08 is just a friggin' beast. I mostly use it for lugnuts, but it certainly makes changing a flat a breeze. Especially if you have a scissor jack with a hex head. That thing will zip the car up and down in no time.
Budget: 18v ryobi 1/2 drive. I've had one for about 10 years, flawless except i got trans fluid on the grip and ruined it. still use it tho. Powerful enough to tear down a complete ls engine including head bolts and crank bolt. Lug nuts no problem. I just bought the newest version with the led lights becuase it has even more power, lights and the grip isnt falling off.
money no object: Milwaukee. hands down. its a beast.
