How hard was it to get the keeper in place and get the ones back by the firewall?

I used one similar to the sears one but with a nice handle or a hex for a wrench and it worked nice.

Autozone sells a "hand compress" version that's about $6.00. We cut off about 8" from the handle, it's about 12" long. This with a thick flat washer, a 3/8" rocker stud and rocker nut has been a really fast tool for in car spring removal or out of car for that matter.

When I changed my cam and springs I rented the spring compressor from autozone which was identical to the one chuckels listed. It fairly slow to use but i didn't have any clearance problems getting the back springs off.
