Default Sears + KMart = ???

I'm sure that they'll be honoring warranties I'm a big craftsman fan (since I'm not at the snap on $$ level), so I'm just curious as to what will happen to the merger, and maybe my sears card.

Thoughts?

From what I have read they're planning to offer Each others brands in each others stores, so what I would take that to mean is we'll be able to buy craftsman tools at K-mart.

Remember Western Auto...you could buy craftsman tools there too....those were great days!

I just hope that they don't start making chinese crap and slapping the craftsman name on them for the sake of having cheap tools. That would suck.

I heard about this last night and figured it'd show up on here. I'll be happy as long as they honor my craftsmen warranty. Lower prices on tools wouldn't hurt too though.

To make it work, they will need to close lots of Sears locations that are in poor places. Martha's place is lean and mean now since they recently emerged from banckrutcy closing many locations and voiding leases and other bad contracts....

I still prefer WalMart but there are none in my location (Westchester NY).

Well according to what I read, a lot of K-Marts will be turned into Sears. Pretty much they're trying to draw the people the don't go to the mall (where Sears is at around here at least) to a stand-alone Sears.

Hmmmmmmmmmm...I'm kinda hoping for a Martha Stewart line of tools that could double as cooking utensils, and still have a lifetime warranty.

How about a torque wrench with a teflon coated spoon attached to the non-business end?

How about a brake bleeder kit that doubles as a turkey baster?

How about an air compressor that doubles as a household vacuum?

How about pink shop rags that double as pot holders?

How about an 1/2 inch air gun that doubles as a cake mixer?

How about a plasma cutter that doubles as a handcuff remover?

This merger is a great idea!

A friend of mine is a supervisor there. he said the major reason for the merger was for the K-mart properties. This leads me to believe they want the stand alone locations as stated earlier.

They said that Kmart will still operate most of its own stores nad have its own HQ. Also, that sears will take over some stores to get out of malls. I guess the sharing brands things is mostly for aplliances like kenmore and sear carrying martha stewart. They said for Sears it was more of a land deal than anything. Kmart stock has gone from just over $20 a year ago to $100 before the merger, and hit $119 after it was anounced. I bought some at $45, and I think now is the time to sell, but I may stick it out a little while longer. As far as the cheap tools thing, it seems to have been going that way lately anyway, I have been having more trouble with tools over the last 18 months from them than ever before, hopefully it doesnt get worse. They also have that companion brand, I think that is a good fit for K-mart.

If it still has a lifetime warranty, i dont really care. As long as theyre Craftsman quality, it should be ok.

As long as Sears continues to make a larger profit each year from credit card interest and fees (than they do retail sales) and the 'average' American consumer continues to borrow more and more each year from credit card companies... Then there is NO WAY that Sears is going out of buisiness any time soon. The main reason that Sears can get away with selling tools so cheap is because they know that they will (most likely) make it up on the interest (and fees) they get from their credit cards. I think the Kmart idea was a great one for Sears because it puts them right there in front of many more credit card waving consumers... And that is what Sears wants...

I dont think Sears is going out of business anytime soon, they`ve been right behind Wal-Mart in retail sales for several years.
