Home Depot sells a Licoln setup called the 3200HD that fits that description. I have one. It's pretty nice. Can't think of anything else I would want for a 110 outlet.

I think Clark might have a 240V for around that price. I can't remember for sure but I think the Clark 240V had a good bit better duty cycle than the various Lincon, Hobart, yada, yada type 120V migs. Here ya go,,, try this link-
http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...pot/index.html

Aluminium is gonna be pain to weld without a gun and anything you buy for 500 bucks ain't gonna have a gun. But,,,, you could do repairs on aluminium if you needed to.

Look at Hobart; it is supposed to be a good (domestic) brand if you like keeping manufacturing jobs here in America. I saw a 240V one for $485 recently at Harbor Freight - shipping included. It had the gas guages ready to go if you wanted to add gas later.

They often have several different prices for the same welders. One of the older HF catologs has this price which can be had on the Net now; if you don't have the catolog number the same weilder is $600.

I just purchased the 3200HD from Home Depot also, great welder with the capability or running argon or flux core. It was like, 490 something with tax and everything. You don't have to buy anytiing else to get started it is all in the kit!

I have had a Lincoln Weldpack 175 (220volt, gas shield, but will do flux core) for about 8 years and it has never missed a beat. Still works like brand new. I think I had about $800-$900 in the welder, regulator, and Argon/CO2 tank. The prices on these machinies have come down since then. Don't know current pricing. Good luck and have fun learning to MIG weld.

I am in the same boat your are in except I am about ready to pick up a TIG welder and start to learn how to TIG weld.

Thanks.

The best thing for that kind of money with the ability to weld aluminum is the one I just bought.

Lincoln SP135 Plus

I paid 494.50 plus freight from a welding company online.. I got it drop shipped straight from Lincoln in a matter of 3-4 days.

www.weldingsupply.com I believe is the link I got mine at. Cheapest place online for what I wanted. This one has the inifinte voltage settings instead of only 3 or 4 clicks for heat. I love mine!

There are way better units for the same price. Refer to my previous post. Shop alot before you buy.

I have a Miller 135 110volt it is great cost about 750.00 worth every penny works great. Will have a cost of a tank but still a great welder. Stay a way from flux core wire, much better weld with gas.

Good luck

Support your local welding shop. Most will match prices. We found that out after buying our TIG machine. Although some might be jerks to you, then support the online guys.

Fandango,

You are correct about price matching. Just had a local shop beat every internet price I could find, but I do quite a bit of N20 business with them throughout the year. I honestly didn't think they would do it. Shows how much I know. They even beat a price I got at a trade show.
