Default Parts Washer Fluid

Just wonder what you guys run in your parts washers. I just got a 20 gallon one, and it recommend only using water based non-flammable, environmentally-friendly, blah blah blah. In my experience, these products don't work very well or leave a film on the parts. One of my buddies suggested a mixture of 5 gal. diesel, 5 gal. kerosene, and 2 gal. of mineral spirits. The parts washer will be outside in the garage so I need something that won't freeze, like the mixture mentioned above. Just thought I would get some input. Thanks.

Check out NAPA its avalible in 5 gallon steel buckets.... I think its CRC brand Im not sure on cost... I would figure 40-50 bucks each... then when the stuff loses its strength use the original contaners for disposal...

Always dispose of chemicals properly.. Poor your old oil changes into the original 5 gal buckets... add brake cleaner.... take to oil collection center..you wouldnt need to change all 15 or so gallons at once....just add a little bit to keep it fresh... plus many brake cleaners are non flameable which might be a safer solution especially if this thing is at your house. Im fortunate enough to just mix it in with my 3 55 gallon waste oil drums that are serviced by Saftey Kleen...

People used to use kerosene pretty much. It's not so easy
to find but some gas stations (esp in rural areas) still have
a kero pump.

If that fails, buy WD-40 in the gallon jug, WD-40 is mostly
kerosene with a little bit of silicone lubricant and a lot of
hype.

My employer sells several types of solvents that can be used in parts washers, although none are specifically designed for 'em... Most folks use mineral spirits, or some blend thereof designed for parts washers. If you want something non flammable, we sell an organic cleaner that works pretty well, or we have the non flammable brake cleaner as well but its more harsh on the pump. I'll try to get some prices.

I always just use a tub billed with kerosene.

I found when it comes to cleaners, strippers, etc. the stronger the smell, the better it works. If it has a skull and crossbones on the front, you've got the good stuff.

I use naptha. You should be able to get it from a local solvent distributor.
