Pocket Knives
j/k...im drunk by the wayi thought you were by reading the way that was said haha thats funny as hell-yeah w/ a knife you can cut a motha f*cka! haha
I use a USAF knife(looks like a small k-bar) I use it to open crates, boxes, cut metal banding straps, hammer nails with the butt, pry. This knife is in-expensive and I sharpen it once a week with the $4 walmart sharpener. This is my duty knife and the Army gave it to me for school,(jumpmaster) When it breaks(IF) I get another one.
I use my knife daily for work. RLTW
I use it at work primarly for opening boxes, cutting sale tags apart, and anything else a boy scout might use it for. After a while you do feel naked if you don't have with you. Remember it is all in how you use it. A knife is a tool, a Leatherman is a tool, and a cast iron skillet is a tool. If you change the way and intent that the tool is used for then you have a weapon. Just my point of view.
When looking for a knife. Feel it in your hand. How does it balance? How does it fit in your hand? Do you cut your thumb when opening it? Grab a hold of the blade in one hand (not the sharp part) and the handle in the other. Now move one hand up the other down. How much does the blade "play"? Less is better. Look at the lock mechinism. If it is a one hand opener, can you close it with one hand?. If it is a liner lock, how far over does the liner go? To the edge, the middle or the far edge? Farther is better. Do you want something that is easy to sharpen, look for a straight blade. If you want to cut things like rope quicker than maybe a serrated edge. (Serrated edge knives a pita to sharpen in my experiance.) Look for a warrranty length and buy what you like. Also look at what the legal carry length in your state is if you will be putting it in your pocket.

that brand) butterfly with a 4" blade and anodized titanium
handles. Everywhere I wear pants, it goes. I've been a
butterfly fan for years. The form is so very handy. I've
been told they're illegal to carry, but personal grooming is
just too important.
The ones I've had before had so-so blades but this one's stainless is really nice, high hardness
but tough as well. It keeps an edge for a long time, and I
use & abuse my knives.
...but you might run out of trunk space carrying it around (14.5" overall length). My favorites, in my experience, would have to be Spyderco, due to quality of workmanship and their customer service and lifetime free sharpening. And Benchmade due to their attention to detail in making a purpose built knife, and also the workmanship.
