good all around compressor?
good all around compressor? ok, im ready to start on my project vehicle before the summer break is over. Im looking to get a good all around compressor. sanding, grinding, impact, paint, any suggestions? would also like it to be on wheels. as it will have to go in and out of the house, as i dont have anywhere to store it outside.

You need at least a 60 gallon tank. I bought a Craftsmutt oil-less compressor unit and it works OK but is too noisy. My suggestions would be to pay a tad more and buy an oil compressor unit... try the Home Depo ...
hmm.....was hoping to not have to get one so big...i need it to be portable, as i am not in a situation right now where i can leave it permanently. must be pulled inside every time i use it. i was hoping i could get by with a 15-20 gallon compressor......any thoughts?

I think that won't work for paint, grinding, air chisel, and air sanders.

Nah....you just need lots of volume to run those tools... 60 gallons is even too small for most of those tools. My 60 gallon Sears unit has big wheels but I would not want to carry it around too much.... look on the Sears web page if your interested.
Remember - oil-less compressors are SUPER noisy, so avoid these if possible...

...Most compressors have information tags or other sales data that describe the tools they can handle. Sears compressors have printed stickers on the motor that tells you what it can run. Remember, these are only guides...

It never ceases to amaze me that as often as this fool talks trash about Craftsman tools, He just keeps on giving Sears his money...
IMO, The Sears air compressors are good for the "Harry Homeowner" type, but if you actually plan on 'using and abusing' your air compressor daily then you may want to shop for one at a 'Fastener' Store. You will find better quality but it will cost a little more... I have been (daily) abusing my HITACHI 2hp for about 9 years now and it still kickin. My brother bought one of the oil-less Sears compressors out on the jobsite and it did not make it 2 weeks before it died a horrible, burnt-smelling death. You get what you pay for!
