Lightbulb lifter hold up tool (5/16" wood dowel, $1.59 from home depot)

helped out w/ a cam install last night(234/240 598/608 114LSA Competition Cams custom grind from 21MC)cut the dowels to 22" in length and spun the cam before installing dowels, also ground the front of dowel to a taper(spun on concrete like sharpening a pencil), dowels went right in-'01 c5 w/ 40k miles
TOTAL COST OF CAM INSTALL TOOL=$1.59
used the autozone 3 arm puller on the crank bal. w/ stock bolt for removal, would help to have the bal. bolt 1" longer, now waiting for a valve spring rem. tool from TR; this "tools" section is awesome, corvetteforum is lacking on the "tech" stuff

I used 1/4" aluminum... it'll flex. I didn't have to flat spot anything , I just tapered the tip with a file.

All you have to do is sharpen the end like a pencil. Not to a sharp point. But you get the idea. I used a pocket knife on mine.

I used wooden dowels on my cam install also....couldn't have been cheaper or easier....my friend did his cam install first and used the pen magnet method and ended up dropping a lifter! By far the dowels are the best way to go IMO. As far as tapering the end of the wooden dowels all i did was scraped it on the concrete driveway to make it look like a dull pencil end. It's really not that hard...don't look so deep into it! Good luck!
