i've found there power tools to be junk. 3 18v battery drills broken in various ways. Drill Case cracked, motor case cracked, motor burnout. also so far lost one of their 120v power drills to brushes becoming dislodged and burning out some windings. waiting for the last 2 to die. another pistol type and a rifle type. then i'll go back to buying real power tools.

I work next to a Harbor Freight, and most of their tools are one time use only. On the other hand they have some handy stuff for cheap thats great..........Like the little grabber thingy that got a pushrod out of my oil valley that I dropped. I was stressin on that one, and barely got it.

I don't think its all junk.
For the little stuff they are great. I've bought an impact from them, the Earthquake, not sure who its made by but for the use I get out of it the thing has worked great. I oil it per instructions and had it over a year, used it 10 times?
Their Trans Jack is awesome...impact socket set for $13. Yes I'm sure their impact set might be softer, or not heat treated as well, etc but the wall thickness is still there and I doubt they would break on anything on a car since the most torque I think is 125ft lbs. Same for the $8.00 impact exstension set.
The little stuff, zip ties, $4.00 siphon pump(same pump $12 at Napa), that stuff works great. For $4.00 siphon pumps when you need to do something, and you know its going to jack it up, who cares its a throw away and you just pick up another one. Hell I ran out of their zip ties and bought some at True Value, junk...I never thought you could make a junk Zip Tie but they sell them there.
I just wish there was one closer to me, both of them are a good distance and in the hood.
Not a bad place to go if you have a good idea of what your getting.

burned out two battery drills inside of.... 4 months. 1 heavy duty AC powered drill burned out in 3, the other probably won't last long. the ac one is used alot when im running electrical to drill holes through the studs and topplates, ect so i have a wire path.

I would never buy any of their stuff for everyday use in a shop. BUT for the home mechanic, it is a great place to get your hands on some handy tools that would otherwise cost 10 times as much in a Snap-On version.
Oh and their customer service through mail order sucks.... wish I was as lucky as you having the store right around the block

I buy alot from them. Their air tools are great. Look for them on sell.
My best deal so far is a sawsall. Its the chicago electric brand and you can tell its not made as well as a Milwaukee but I have used it dozens of times already cutting exhaust and even wood and works like a champ. I got it on see for 14.99.

I've had good luck with the big stuff they sell. I bought an engine hoist and motorcycle jack and they work great. Their wrenches, drill bits, hammers etc look like chinese crap that will break pretty quick. I saw a set of drill bits there that were CAST!!! These things did not have the tips ground and had parting lines on them from the casting process. I don't think you could drill through styrofoam with these things.
