Default anyone ever use an exhaust pipe expander?

I am replacing some pipe under my daily driver. I bought an expander and it does not seem to be working very well. Is there some trick to getting the expander to expand the pipe? I have a 60gal. compressor and snapped the expander. Going to try again tomorrow with a new one.

never had luck using the parts store/harbor freight ones for anything except taking clamp indentations out.

that is all the expanders are intended for- removing the indentations from clamps. It can't/won't expand pipe like from 2.23" to 2.5" or something like that.

They do good to make an out of round pipe round again. Takes a machine like muffler shops have to expand pipe.

What they said. If you need anything more than small adjustments, bring the pipes to a muffler shop and have them do it with their hydraulic version. Most shops will do it for free.
