Going to buy a set of ratcheting wrenches pretty soon. What do you use/recommend? My budget isn't quite big enough for snap-on.

 

I like gear wrench.

 

gear wrench. Plus they have the lip on them that wont allow the bolt to slip through on you.

 

Another vote for GearWrench brand. They will turn bolts just as well as the others and you can get them warrantied at Lowes or at NAPA.

 

Get the gearwrench with the flex head, they have become my favorite wrench.

Don't get craftsman ratchet wrenches, the ratchet doesn't always catch and it slips.

 

I like my gearwrench a lot. My snap on guy actually talked me in to buying them instead of the snap on ones.

 

ive got both gearwrench and craftsman....and if I get anymore they will be gearwrench

 

S&K makes a good splined one as well I use at work that will grab even stripped ones. Got them through Sears too lol. I got the the Gear Wrenches back in 99 at Ace Hardware (was the only place I could find them) and still use the crap out of them. If you do a search you can get the sets fairly cheap on the internet I found a set of gear wrenches (STD and Metric) XL's (longer ones ) for around 120 or 130 for 1/4"-1". I hate the flex heads you gotta just torque it a bit or try to get it started it always wants to move on you. I have never needed one of those. And I hate those damn things.

 

I've got the gear wrench, but the set doesn't include an 11mm wrench, so I need to buy a single 11mm since a bunch of stuff on our cars is 11mm.

Anyone else find this problem?

I have used the snap on's and did not like them. I like the gearwrench & Stanly ones.

 

i got my husky's from home depot and they are really nice for only 50 bucks ive put them through hell and they are still going strong and half the price of craftman

 

What's 11mm on our cars?

Most the metric sizes for GM are: 5.5, 7, 8, 10, 13, 15, 18, 19, 21, and 34. There are a few U.S. sizes.

 

I use the **** out of my tools.


Gear wrenches suck (period) I broke half of them in the first week.

I've had a few craftsman ones. Better than the gearwrenches but I still broke a couple.

Stanley, beleive it or not I havent broken one of these in the past year and a half I've owned them. They are still as tight as the day I bought them.

And I use them atleast 2-3 times a week working on cars.

 

Ive got Snap On and i love them, But I've used gearwrench and they were nice as well.

 

I had a non-flex head Gearwrench set. I only broke one, 14mm, which I never really used anyway.

I then bought a flex head Blue Point set, they're great. The flex head really helps out a lot.

 

How in the hell did you break them??? i have hammered on mine and no-breaky??

 

I got both the straight and flex head gearwrench's and i love them. i use them everyday. I hardly have a problem with them but i have broken a couple over the years but my snap-on guy waranties them, also like eschoendorff said napa and lowes will too. If your only gonna buy i set i reccomend the flex head.
