I see above that the oiled vs. oil-less is 50/50. anymore opinions on which one to get. Any advantages to one or the other other than noise? Thanks

Here's one more for the oiless version.
SEARS now has their 30 gallon model on sale for $249.00!
I've never seen the price this low!

I think than an oiled one will last longer, but does require a little more maintnance (change the oil, and maybe a belt)

Oil-lubed. Way way quieter. Most oil-free voters probably have not used both. My 6hp 25 gallon Craftsman oil lubed compressor is probably half the volume of my uncles 3hp XX gallon oil-free.

Figure on spending $100+ more for oil-lubed versus oil-free.

Like everyone has said, pressure doesn't matter just volume.

I bought a new toy this weekend:

Its VERY quiet! You can barely hear it when it turns on, all you hear is the belt turning on the pulleys.

Specs:
New 150 psi for longer tool operation. Dual capacitor 6 hp (max. dev.) motor with manual thermal overload protection for added safety and reliability in low voltage conditions.

Single stage pump compressors air in 2 steps for more efficient and cooler operation
2 cylinder oil lube pump with cast-iron sleeves and automotive pistons and rings
Durable construction and a lower oil consumption for longer pump life
Aluminum fanned crank case and a balanced flywheel for improved heat dissipation
10 in. pneumatic wheels
Automotive type paper filter for better filtration

Price was $389, but with the "Craftsman Club" membership it was 10% off = $350

Now I can start my air-tool collection

Nice Compressor there. Those type bleed down check valves suck, but you can always replace it with a better one later.

150psi is whats happening in tool performance!

Ron, how is the higher PSI rating of this compressor I bought going to be useful? Does it produce more available torque in the tools I use?

NineBall

I just bought the same compressor too.

Those oiless ones are way too noisy and I previously bought 2 of the 6hp/30gal vertical ones with tanks that leaked at the welds! both returned.

I'm very happy after breaking in the new oil model. Quiet, and great for home garage work. Hey, it doesn't leak either.

Spend your money on a good 3/8" air ratchet, a good 1/2" impact gun, and a set of craftsman made in usa impact sockets.

The higher PSI definitely produces more torque from the tool. We run 160psi at our equipment shop and our impact guns do really well. As far as tool longevity: My 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 Mac guns have been with me in this shop for 15+ years and none have been rebuilt more than twice. They get a few drops of oil whenever I'm thinking of it, maybe after a few hours of constant use or once a week.

Another thing a higher psi rating compressor is capable of is more cfm at the higher pressure due to a higher compression ratio. The low psi rated compressors do well below 100psi but really struggle after that. ... My low psi V twin compressor blew head gaskets when I turned it up before it was a week old. Now I have just the aluminum heads stuck on with permatex, no gasket and its does well.
