Flanged cats
I want to be able to take my cats on and off. I was told to weld flanges to make this happen. I want to get some suggestions on this whole thing. I have 3 inch pipes and high flow cats. Thanks for all the help.
Very easy really. You just need to order (12) 3 bolt exhaust flanges. You put two on each cat, one on each opposing side of the exhaust pipe. Then you put one on each side of (2) "spacer" pipes the same length of your cats. You can eliminate (6) of the flanges if you are able to wiggle a slip fit on one side of the cats and spacer pipes, or if you want to remove your catback each time.
I don't have a link to the cats, but here's a link to a v-flange kit. You weld the ring onto the header, then the other to the end of the cat, then the clamp goes around the two rings and sandwiches them together. Makes a good seal and really easy to take apart when needed.

If you're referring to standard band clamps, they may be easiest to make it work initially, but also the hardest and most time consuming to swap between them later on.
I vote for V-band clamps. Second choice would be 3-bolt flanges.

Zero seat of the pants difference, FYI. The hardest part will be finding an exhaust shop that will aid you in your quest to remove your Federally mandated catalytic converters.

Yes, it would be expensive, but think about how many 3 bolt flange gaskets you'll be going through if you use 3 bolt flange. Plus, the v-band clamps will seal much better. So, you could do it cheaper but that doesn't mean better.
I did the 3 bolt flange thing a while back until I gave it all up & ditched the cats completly. The thing is, instead of a tube to replace the cats, I had another set of empty cats for "show", in case of an infamous NJ DMV mobile random inspection.
And BTW, some of the flanges were welded on, and some "header adapters", which just held into the cats with regular muffler clamps.
