Announcement: We are switching message board software

HtownRacing.com uses "Invision Power Board" .. It is a relative new-comer to the bulletin board world, and I figured that'd be a good test-bed for it. So far, it's pretty darned good for a free package. VBulletin, however, is much more "polished" and professional -- which is why we chose it
Why not just say what you mean... I'm cheap & Ls1tech is not.
The new forums will have alot of the same features as HtownRacing but with many added perks. The site is going to look great (even though they decided against my design that I spent hours on)
I just can't wait to get the speed back!

We had a great time with UBB.Classic but outgrew it in a year in a half. That's why we kept archiving threads, once a forum got too big the search feature would drag the site's performance down.
We switched to UBB.Threads. Frankly we've been underwhelmed with it too.
We moved the site to a dedicated server since we were occasionally maxing our the shared server that we were on.
We now know that our intermittent lag problems are not hardware at all. Much to our amazement, we've never come close to maxing out the server. But we found the limits of the software.
Brian is setting up the programs etc., to move everything over intact. In addition, he's looking at some of the underlying programing to see what can be done to make it more efficient.
We may have to play with archives, or some way to keep old threads from slowing the site down.
I can say with a great deal of confidence that there is probably no better messageware for our application than VBulletin. That does not mean that it's perfect, in an ideal world we'd probably have someone build us 'ware from scratch.
We'd love to debut the new site today but we are still working on various aspects of the site as well as the conversion issues. The current site will be backed up of course.
To add, it's also true that we've wanted to have more FAQ info, and pages and links on the site, but we've really made site speed our number one priority ever since we went live with the site in 2001.
I could keep typing, but I will get back to site stuff.
I went through and checked some things and Brian is doing all of the programming.
We are going to have the moderators check it out for a day and then swap over.
