My little bro is in the Air Force ( Seymour Johnson ) and is on his way to Iraq. He wanted to join the Marines like I did and I told him he was on crack and he could get more advanced training and have a better lifestyle in the Airforce. Instead of dealing with the Marine Corps hand me downs and living in the field at months at a time. Im so glad the he took my advice. As I am no longer in (95-99) and have lost several friends to helicopter accidents in Iraq and could not imagine the pain that familys go throught after losing a loved one.

I am all for a military section espically if it will help the ones who are there who frequent this site. Anything we can do to help them or make there life a little better a little easier or just a place for them to blow off a little steam would be a good thing.

Semper Fi,
Scott

Thanks for the reviews guys, both good and not. I had a link in the Truck Lounge that was locked for some reason. There was no strong language or personal attacks as outlined in the Lounge rules, but a disagreeing MOD took it upon himself to lock it and not let anyone know why. If you read this MOD whats up?

I'm not trying to start up anything negitive, i just think it would be a good idea. I guess now its up to Tony (NineBall).

Tony, how about a trial period if nothing else to see if it can be kept religion/political/branch of service bashing free? I dont mind being a mod for it, and it will be kept up.

I told my cousin "Join the damn AF." For some reason he decided to join the Marines... God Bless you Willie! I pray every night he makes it home to see his new born daughter... he has never had that chance. I last heard he was in 50 miles north of B-town. With over 6 kills I hope he is ok when he gets back.

But the Navy is kinda nice two.... I do got love for all my soldiers out there. I'll keep the jets coming your way with the bombs you need.... Where you want them, when you want them. Stay safe and I'll save some Surf and Turf for you brothers!

Great forum idea!

I feel completely different about that isiahstites, I did my four in the Marines and got out for the wrong reasons. I then went to the Air Force and couldn't last a year with the difference in bearing/discipline and the pseudo high-end training. I ended up getting a conditional release while pending the board for the Marines to allow me to return. I have since rejoined and have never been more content. Next year while overseas I will be submitting my Warrant Officer package and plan on making this a full career now that the reason for my departure is no more (ex-wife). I am on the October rotation, just a little less than two months after my next child is to be born. My wife now is very supportive of my career and knows my views on serving and where my allegiances lay. She was fully aware of this before marrying me and I could not be any luckier. So to say one branch is better than another is a misnomer. Everyone reacts differently to being subjected to different hardships and lifestyles. I have done my recruiting time as well and have seen and heard all the other selling tools. I think it is best to let everyone make their own decision and just stick it out for the four years. If they don't like it they can always try another branch. On a side note though, if they start with Marine recruit training they never have to attend another branches boot camp. Ok, that is all.

Mysstery-machine,

I agree with just about everything you said....... my opinion of the corps is good as my opinion of all the other branchs is as well ..... I just didnt think my bro would of been able to deal with Marine Corps and some of things involved in being a Marine and I was probably right listening to him belly ache about certain things he has to do now. I felt military life would be a plus for him, and felt the AF would be the best route for him, due to there sophisticated training and a less agressive work place than the corps would have suited him best.

I can totally understand going from USMC to USAF would be a hard transition and I would of had the same problems as well. Remember one thing about your transition from a Marine to an Airmen.....Marine Corps was all you knew the AF was very forgein Im sure and would have been difficult for anyone to make a change like that, however had you just went into the Af first you probably would of done great. To this day the Marine in me comes out on a daily basis.

Good luck on you WO package and I wish your family as well as your unit the best of luck........Semper Fi!

I like the MRE's too. I've only been to one Navy galley that had better food than MRE's. I buy alot of them for camping/hunting trips all the time. The actually sell MRE's in alot of Comissarys.

The spagetti rocks especially. Better than my wifes LOL.

wasn't the whole purpose of ls1tech splitting off from the other forums to get rid of these types of non-tech issues?

i really like ls1tech because it's almost all tech (except for what seams to creep into the general forums...) you can't say that about any other forums out there, yet there are apparently plenty of people here willing to sacrifice that last unique attribute.

oh ya, usaf here

Guys, this is an automotive forum first and foremost. We certainly appreciate the military and everything that it stands for. We even have a few staff members that are active or veterans. I grew up in a Marine household, and my Dad served in Vietnam.

But, we can't create forums to classify types of people, or occupations, or religious groups, or etc.... This is a car enthusiast forum, and all of our military members hopefully can find some relaxation and fun just by surfing our various forums and talking about what we all have a common interest in - GM performance cars.

This site is as successful as it is simply because we have stayed on course, focusing primarily on the technical and racing aspects of these vehicles. Hopefully everyone can understand and appreciate this.

We would encourage you guys to start threads like this in our Lounge area, it seems even a thread like this can gather up all of our military members, so feel free to create more threads if you would like them.

Tony
