I get spam emails, spam calls at home, spam calls on my cell phone, spam letters in the mail.

So when I start getting spam pm's in my inbox of a private site, yes it is that big of a deal.

No one spam PM isnt going to drive me away, but one means two, then 20 a day. Smell what I am steppin in?

Instead of bitching and whining, simply contacting a staff member who can actually DO something about it would seem to be a more intelligent choice. If it seems your whole life has come crashing down around you by getting an unwelcomed PM on LS1Tech, I'd be more than happy to disable your PMs entirely -- or you can do it yourself via the UserCP.

Also, for clarification, this is a PRIVATELY OWNED site -- not a private access site. Anyone can register a username and post/pm here.

I posted about it in the USER FEEDBACK section of tech. I am giving my feedback. I would ASSUME that a mod would see this post and not reply like I am the ******* here.

FWIW I DID attempt to send a PM to PSJ about this but his Inbox is full so I couldnt send it to him.

Why have a user feedback section if you arent going to act on the feedback without giving the user a hard time and trying to make him look stupid?

And no my life isnt coming crashing down and the sarcasm isnt necessary especially from a mod on this site.

Your probably right the truth hurts though

If the mod were to handle it like he should have he would have simply posted "I will contact the user, the situation is taken care of"

It would be well deserved.

Just my point of view though. Brains/Nine Ball/PSJ/all other mods/admin have real jobs too. They put their time into this site like no other. Brains is constantly working to IMPROVE THE SITE. No telling how many hours he spends on here trying to squeeze a little more performance out of the site, so YOU can view it and find information for FREE. No reason to call any of them a **********, or any name for that matter. Show some respect to them, and appreciate what they have given you.

No doubt they put a lot of time into the site (They do get compensated so it isnt "pure motives"), I never said they didnt.

They will get the same respect they show me. When they post and make me sound like a dumbass like I dont know how to disable PM's or contact an admin it is unprofessional. Did I post it in the Nitrous forum? Nope I posted where someone else had posted about the same thing in the USER feedback area. It is my feedback to the mods/admins that they may have a problem developing because I have gotten probably 10 of the types of pm's in the last month or so. Why bash me instead of the *** that is PMing everyone?

Was it to much to ask to have him say "It will be taken care of."?

It doesn't bug me getting called names on a website, and I don't hand out vacations like candy either.. Just not my style.. So, he has no worries there.

BUT, I do thinks its a bit unrealistic to go on such an angry tirade over getting -one- spam PM My sarcasm (which is also a valid solution) seemed to hit kinda hard though

I really wasnt that worried about it but Brains and his trusty sidekick Brandon (Every post Brains make brandon is right there cheering him on) made me feel like I was the dumbass. And as I stated it wasnt one spam I have had probably 10 in the past month from different idiots pimping their sites.

I never meant I would leave tech if I got one more pm, like I said I wanted to bring it to peoples attention thats all and after trying to pm PSJ I saw this post.

Its all good, nothing personal afterall it is just the internet but there has to be some way to block mass pm's across the forum. Maybe limit the pm's to 5 different users or something that way it is a lot more work to do it rather than just hitting a shitload of names.

I think it had less to do with the fact that you came into this section to complain about the spam and more the fact that you came in and made a big deal of it, and got defensive and upset. No need to get upset about anything on the internet really, its just the net.

As for Brandon, he's been on this site for a long time. He knows how things work around here. Had you simply forwarded the info to ACW or someone and left it alone instead of getting all worked up over it, I doubt this would have been an issue.

Cyphur
As I said it aint a biggie, how did I make a big deal of it? I merely said if you guys dont fix it it is going to get out of hand and cause problems for the site.

I did try and pm PSJ, I didnt know any other admins/mods usernames and it wasnt worth the effort to try and track it down. I saw the post on the main page and I said humm that same stuff is happening to me let me go post about it, so I did.

I was/am not worked up about the PM. Forget about it. It aint worth explaining because it is obvious no mods/admins can simply say "I will be take care of it" and let it drop you merely want to come in here and defend your friends.

That member has already been taken care of. You shouldn't be getting any more PMs from them. I was merely offering a little useful advice.

You can find out the usernames of moderators and administrators by looking at the right of the forums on the index page, they will be in green for mods and red for admins.

Well anyway, back to the issue at hand. There already is a limit on the number of member names you can PM at once. I believe that limit is 5, but I'd have to double check. That doesn't stop a determined individual from doing it manually though.

Its also nearly impossible to have a system parse PM's before they're sent to determine if its spam or not. Truthfully I don't think its even worth the effort to code, when it isn't a huge problem. The simplest solution is to send a message to a moderator or administrator (who you now know another ones name, I'll bet ) and they'll take care of banning the abuser. If you don't want or can't send a PM, feel free to email me -- webmaster@ls1tech.com
