theres only one thing left you can do.

read the entire site, every page, every thread.

then you wont have to ever search again.

The nice part about it is when people like me ask a question that has already been asked 1000 times, NOW nobody says "Use the search button"!

It does suck when it doesnt work though.

I'm feeling really good about my progress on search today -- just don't tell my employer, because I spent about 6-7 hours today working on it

Anyway - its pretty much BACKWARDS from the performance of the old search tool. First off, the more detailed or obscure the search term, the FASTER it returns results. So searching on "ls1" will take pretty long since its in darned near *every* post, but a search for "brake dust shields" will return 17 results in 0.73 seconds. Yes, this is searching back to day 1 of the site -- over 4.6 MILLION posts.

The new and improved search tool isn't quite finished, but I'm getting VERY close to having it complete and ready to stitch into the site. I'm also working on making the old and the new integrate intelligently, because the new search tool will continue to use a "disconnected" database. Truth be told, its on a separate server, and running a different database package entirely (the forums use MySQL, the search uses PostgreSQL). Heck, right now its just a plain-jane black and white screen with a box to type in your query, and the results are just dumped out in plain text. I'm getting there, folks!

Awesome.... my only beef with the search was searching a user name would return different posts each time and never all the posts for that name posted. ie my own.

No problem the only downside is it searches sigs too. Use quotes to group words together for more accuracy.
