Default child forum?
Why when i do a search does it have a block to select "child forums"?

It's just something built into vBulletin (the forum's software).

Child = anything under a main category. Like the forum is a child of LS1Tech, each forum section is a child of LS1Tech Forums, whereas LS1Tech Forums is the parent to the sub-forums. Nothing sick about it, just basic terminology.
