Default New ads??? WTF???

What is with the Google type ads? Please tell me that is not going to stay. John and Tony make WAY too much money to stupe that low. I am not trying to start ****, I am honestly asking. The sponsors we have isn't enough? It isn't on the main page, only in the threads of the sub forums.

Another thing is the animated ads. Isn't that going to slow the site down? I know you can't have animated signatures, but the ads are allowed?

Animated images slow down loading times on your end - the browser processes them. 1 isn't so bad, but if you had a page with 20 flashing huge-*** animated signatures, thats a different story.

Guys, we are upgrading to a full set of high dollar servers and a new host in a couple months. This **** isn't free you know. They might not look as clean as zero ads, I agree. But, they do not hurt the function of the site, and you guys still get your info.

Matt, if you wish to start paying to use the site we can talk about removing them.

Why not have normal members pay a small fee? Like $30 a year. There is 95,802 members. Say half of them are still current. That is $1,437,030 you can put towards the cost. I know it doesn't cost that much per year. Just a thought. You'd be suprised how many members would pay to have a properly functioning site.

I'd pay a membership fee if it included removing google ads and a larger PM inbox.

I'm not trying to talk **** either, but that's stupid. It's a forum, that's the whole point, sponsors pay, more people use the site. Pay sites like this last 2 months and then disappear no matter how great they are

A regular account should remain free. It would be optional account upgrades that you pay for (example).

I know exactly how much new servers and hella bandwidth cost per year. You are not the only Webmasters that are on this site you know. You can't tell me this site does not generate enough from *SPONSORS* that you have to use Google ads too.

And have you noticed the adds that come up? Your paying sponsors might get upset, since you are violating your own "non-sponsor link" rule.

good call on that one. On one of my sites, I setup an account with adwords to try to monetize the site alittle bit. Well, alot of the google ads that were shown were in direct competition with what I was trying to sell on my site. You can go back and block the advertisers you don't want, but then you get alot of random **** your audience doesn't want.

on another note, say you have 90,000 users accounts

half are still current - 45,000

half of the current users say they would love to pay for the site -22,500

and in the end, 10 users actually do

ya'll might be better off with 'contributing members' who pay and get a small privelage

or, you could also sell some text links on say a 'link page'. with your alexa ratings, you could justify asking $20 or so for a year long text link. I'd imagine that their are atleast 1000 people who would pay for it, could be an extra $20,000 per year. Should help on the server cost

Just afew idea's. There are better ways than adwords IMO.

We are working on the updated membership thing, it is a few months out.

Some of you guys just like to complain about everything, it isn't like those new google ads are affecting the site. How about you guys let us run the site and not complain so much? We have been running LS1TECH for six years now, it isn't like we are newbies here.

Could that go in the upper right hand corner above or below the Google add stuff?

Sometimes it's nice to be able to jump over to the sponsor links when reading threads.
