Google Ads?
Whatever we come-up with should help make it clear in users' mind that:
1) Sponsors can be trusted
2) Other ads that go on the page, Google Ads, Banners, Towers, "are *just* ads", not to be confused with actual sponsors.
Am I off-base? Let me know, and I'll relay the info..

Thanks for working so hard on this free-membership site, and continuing to do so.
Sure, it's got problems, but now that we see they are recognized and that you're working to correct them, everything is cool.
However, I'm glad there was a membership riot, though it got a little stupid at the end. I hope this proves to IB that the LS1Tech membership will not be abused. At some point, we will just leave. IB cannot totally **** the site up in the name of profit without experiencing a counter-productive loss in membership.
I don't think that's what happened here. I said all along that what happened was a mistake and that I believed it would be corrected. The site is well on it's way to being back to normal.
Thanks!
SSU was created when the lounge here was closed. It became the off topic hangout for many 'Tech members for a period of time, then the worthless lounge was re-opened (I believe at the request of IB) and after the buyout the SSU site stayed up just with different owners. So we are not talking about some random non-automotive site, we are talking about a site with virtually the same user base as this site operating under ownership of people that for years did nothing but eat, sleep, and breath LS1Tech so that people like yourself would have a place to hang out.
So IN THIS INSTANCE (Concerning SSU) it seems "OK" to promote this non-automotive site since they were actually cut from the same cloth. So whatever "directions" you want to go with your comment above just make sure we are talking apples to apples before you start your argument.
Anyways...lets get back to the topic of the thread.
Thanks for "letting it slide" for us, you have been such a great help throughout all of this!
Xtinct pretty much nailed it - SSU is allowed as a courtesy to Tony and John, and for our mutual members. We (IB) wanted a lounge here, because SSU stayed under the ownership of Tony/John. With no direct ties, it made sense I think. Not to mention, SSU is almost "non-car" focused, trying to branch out into a more pure "mens" site with all that entails. LS1Tech needed it's own lounge that more fit us. To me, it's working great the way it is
Sounds great. I agree a lounge here is nice. But I dont think you can blame us for questioning the logic behind allowing one but not the other. fquick is another one that is in tons of our signatures, and you have to admit, that is car related, but for some reason is ok.
I wont be promoting any other sites intentionally, especially after this, but I thought it needed clarification and you did a better and more honest job of it. Thanks for that.

so lets be happy for now and buy from the paying sponsors.

There's generally a good reason for things like that. For example, FQuick was created by a couple of our moderators, and it provides some cool stuff for our community that benefits us as a whole. video.ls1tech.com points to StreetFire, and again it was created by one of our moderators and provides cool stuff for our community.
I think most of the reason that you guys don't understand the whole SSU/LS1TECH thing is because you weren't here when the split occurred. That's no slight to you. The two sites are very close.
They were pretty much the same site for a year or two, with the user profiles and accounts linked to both sites. It was basically the same forum, SSU was created as an extension of LS1TECH's lounge since the lounge was experiencing a huge influx of trolls at that time. User accounts worked on both sites. For example, if you got a PM on SSU, it would show up in your LS1TECH mailbox as well. If you edited your signature on LS1TECH, it would change on SSU as well.
When IB purchased LS1TECH, the sites split and the user accounts are now totally independent from one site to the other, but they're very much sister sites. SSU is basically a child forum of LS1TECH. Tony and John own it and run it, and the IB folk are kind enough to allow us to keep the link in our signature.

It occured to me this morning that had this site always been the way it was yesterday, almost nobody would have been the wiser, and would have been happy with it. Change is always hard to take and sometimes it is easier to just say screw it and look for an alternative than to try to help fix it. And everyone's frustration causes people to say and do things they wouldnt ordinarily. Both on the mods side and on the regular users side.
I don't even see the doubleclick ads either.
Figured I would give you a heads up that things are still weird.
Just a quick note to thank all involved in correcting the problems of the past few days. I sincerely hope that it remains this way, but understand that some minor changes may be required to make the site more profitable for the new owners. Since they are in business to make money the same as where everyone of us works, some concessions may have to be made.
One piece of advice would be to inform the users prior to a major change to the forum. I am not talking about in a corner where almost 98% of the users never visit (hell, I didn't even know this area existed!), but on the top of every page. Also, most if not all of the issues members had over this could have been easily avoided if some of the administrative team would have informed us of the situation and asked us to be patient.

Yes, but you can understand the confusion I hope. I only pointed out SSU because of the mod that banned someone for "spamming" had it in his sig.

For the record, the first user that was banned for spamming didn't just have it in his sig. He made several posts advertising the forum in this thread. He was given a warning, then an infraction. He continued to thump the forum even after the warnings and he was then banned.
I also want to add a quick thank you to the administrative staff for noticing the problem and resolving it as quickly as possible. It demonstrates the strength of our community and the ability to grow.
Hopefully the "back button" problem is the next to be fixed.

Ctrl-F5 doesn't change anything. Whats weird is that it worked fine around midnight last night but then sometime within that hour is started doing what it is now.
I don't even see the doubleclick ads either.
Figured I would give you a heads up that things are still weird.

try that...it should fix things.
I keep all the ads blocked anyway. The google ad was annoying because i couldnt block the whole thing
Man they must have deleted my post. I don't believe i added a link or anything in it so why was it deleted? that's pretty pathetic considering all i did was defend a direct attack at another site and being civil about it. There is no reason to do that. there are a BUNCH of sponsors there that are here as well and i believe there shouldn't be a problem to sponsor BECAUSE of that. I don't see the problem. Oh thanks for editing my Sig. I wasn't suprised when i saw it. Not trying to pick a fight here i'm just defending another site that i go to alot as well. It's B.S. that we can't mention a site. Better not mention Myspace and others too since they are NON-sponsors. They may have a link on their site for a car part non-sponsor and then all the members that mention Myspace will get banned
rediculous~Cole~
rediculous~Cole~ I see you're running ABP...try opening the settings and letting LS1tech be unblocked. What youre seeing is the text of the sponsor buttons flash on your screen as the page loads...but the ABP blocks the ads right away...
try that...it should fix things.

I'm so happy to see the paying sponser's banners back up and the gay double-click stuff gone!
I wasn't going to say anything in the mist of all of it because I didn't want to just jump in and say something I was going to regret or get banned for but I will say that if the sponsers banners go away or if the double-click stuff comes back I will leave the site. (I refuse to click the top banner as it has the double-click crap on it still)
Thank you for those of you involved that helped and kept a cool head during all this. I just wish I would have been smart enought to jump in and throw out links to my website instead of trying to get members the honest way.
Who am I kidding? *Cough* Check link in sig *Cough*
