I dont mind the google adds too much, but that double clicking stuff has to go. I couldn't figure out what it was at first until I saw this thread.

Brains made the comment about a global list of the sponsors. I for onehave hated the alpha numererical lookup system that is currently in place I might have go work through 5-6 pages to find a sponsor when I know there name just looking for a direct link. The current system is pathetic. IB owns Vbulliten so having the best software versions, tech support and and easy to use site should be a no brainer.(pun intended)
Last the google banners is against every principle and non sponser issue that the admins have parroted for years. It's a complete hipocrisey

Chris: Quit being a know-it-all :p

Adam98Z: I think I like that idea as well, but keeping the tower of sponsor banners fit in the available height of the page so it doesn't run on for 232 feet below the last post. I really want to figure out some cool way to organize the list of sponsors as well, where people can get a nice "global" look at them.
i understand that ib doesnt ban anybody. i know that is up to the staff.

what i was saying is the staff is asking everyone to relax, but it its hard to relax with the tension of the staff banning people for speaking there minds about whats going on. you are the first staff member that has calmly answered anybodys questions to my knowledge (long thread). so that is why everybody is in panic mode!

that really wouldnt work well since some sponsors have such a broad range of parts to offer, it wouldnt be very fair

Brains,

Consider a hover over link near the top that is easily viewable and that redirects to a separate page with the full list of sponsors sub-divided categorically by their specialty.

yea, thats what i was thinking. with thoes sponsors, they could be in all sections or on the main page because of the vast majority of parts that could fit all sections.

It is a good starting point. If a sponsor specializes solely in transmissions, fi, n2o, engines or whatever, a person who may be unfamiliar with their operation can see by their category if they are a specialty shop. Your vendors who sale everything from waffle irons to brake fluid could be in an area that shows they aren't a specialty shop.

Regardless, the vendors have been hurt by this move and even though I and probably close to 99% of the members don't know all the details on their side of the issue, some reparation, not necessarily financial reimbursement should be due.

Not to mention navigating the site is slower now. It makes like 10 clicks when I click on a heading, then won't let me click back at times.

I realize and understand the panic. I think we are all thinking the same thing. We love this place and we don't want to see it go down. Trust me... we're sweating! I did ask that people stop playing the ban game and take a different approach to the responses. Remember, we are talking to a big corporation. If we start acting like kids... they are going to treat us that way. Starting problems on the board isn't going to get anything solved and just makes our (the mods) job harder trying to fish through the real posts with good suggestions versus the posts that are just trying to "cause problems". We want IB to read and to comprehend this post and try to feel where we are coming from. They aren't going to do that if all we can do is throw a temper tantrum... does that make sense?

I will say the responses are getting much better. Several members have offered some great suggestions and I think they will definitely be taken into consideration. Keep it up!

when i open this site and click on a thread it sounds like im looking at a **** site with all the pop up blockers *clicking* away.

I think instead of asking us, the forum members, what we want with the sponsor ads.... it should be up to the sponsors on what they want. They pay for the ad space, let them have an overwhelming say on how their money is spent.

For me personally, I liked the old way. Perhaps it was a PITA for the forum maintenance guys, but it was easy for us to use, and every sponsor had a fair shake at exposure everytime you went into a new thread or hit Refresh.

I don't like the Google Ads, either. IMHO, they don't belong here. Hell, there's a sticky in this very sub-forum that says non-paying vendors couldn't/shouldn't make a profit here. If I were a paying sponsor, that alone would **** me off.

I mean... this is worst case scenario, of course. But what if popular vendors like Texas-Speed, Speed Inc, Thunder Racing, etc decided to pull chocks and leave LS1tech? What then? Will a mortgage refinancing company that advertises through Google pick up the slack?

Something to think about...

I was going to multi-quote and answer each reply, but --- damn... you guys are seeing the vision There's already "some" stuff in the new ad system to do exactly what you guys are talking about. This new system has the ability to "target" your ads to only the areas you are interested in, stuff like that. We're a bit early in the game obviously, but it's awesome we're thinking along the same lines

The click thing has been escalated up yet another level (I just got an email about it) to include not only us, but will go all the way to doubleclick themselves if necessary. This one WILL be fixed, one way or another.

I never thought I would see my favorite site turn into googletech.com. Sad.

Anyway, I posted a suggestion for the sponsors on this thread back in November:

Brains, i know ur on our side and im glad to see u seem to be actively involved in resolving this huge issue. i just don't have much faith in IB after all the other forums they have ruined.

im not a programmer, but would it be possible to have the sponsor list variable lenght and have it match the length of post on a page? an also maybe have the ability to search by reigon? even if they are not all on the front page at the same time, 20 per page or something is better than 5 and a huge *** google crap.

what about putting the google ads at the bottom of the page instead of the prime ad space for the very well paying sponsors?

One of my MAJOR ISSUES is this doubleclick spyware crap. i understand they are owned by google now, but doubleclick is completely unacceptable IMO. especially having the paying sponsor links as doubleclick bullshit also.

no that would not be a start. I feel that detracts from the forum.

Slap in the face? More like a punch in the face when you've got google doubleclicks ON TOP OF SPONSOR BANNERS!

Im not a very big poster here, but I have been around here for almost 2 years. This site was what convinced me to go w/ a TA and has answered every single question Ive had with it over the years, so I want to see it back to the old way as much as everyone else. That being said, I realize that IB owns the site now so the final call comes down to them and I doubt theyre gonna can the google adds.

Brains- You said that you wanted some suggestions on how to make the site better instead of jsut complaints, so heres my idea. For starters I am glad that the sponsor list isnt 300ft long down the side of the page. Im not sure if I can explain this to well, but here it goes. I think that if you were able to scroll through the sponsor adds instead of having a static list it would work a lot better. Maybe a list of 20 or so showing at a time and you can just roll your mouse over an up or down arrow at the top or bottom of that list to make it scroll. Some type of order to the sponsors (Alphabetical maybe?) would also help out a lot in finding the one you want.

As for the google adds, if we HAVE to have them I could live with one on the side column below the sponsor links. As a side note I think its only fair to the sponsors that they get a discount on the sponsorship fee due to the google adds.

Thats just my .02

Between posts adds is more detrimental than the side index adds.
