Default FS/FT-1978 Black Trans Am

I've decided to sell my project 1978 Trans Am. This is an all original L78 400/TH350 car. It's black with black deluxe cloth interior. Options were gold snowflakes, 8 track, a/c. I'm the 2nd owner of the car. Bought from the original owner in 2004. This was going to be a project for my Dad and I. We planned on restoring the car back to mostly stock with a little more power out of the motor. My Dad moved to Colorado and I've lost interest in working on the car by myself.

The engine was locked up due to water getting in through the carb from sitting outside. It sat for 15 years outside and wasn't started for close to that amount of time. The car was in extremely good condition when parked, the owner just couldn't take care of the car due to health issues that have lingered for 15 years.

The car was still in good shape when I got it. Everything was there and all original except for the 8 track and headliner. It has a cassette player now. It had rust on the l/f fender at the bottom which is common for these cars. That can be patched pretty easily though. There are also some small rust holes on the r/r quarter panel. Again, easy to patch. The car was hit on the driver side at some point because we found bondo on the quarter and a little on the door. Might need a replacement quarter on the driver side. A few small pinholes in the trunk as well. A very solid car. No rust on the rear panel. The car has some hail damage from sitting outside for so long.

The car is dissassembled now. The subframe is still on the car and the front suspension. The rearend and rear suspension is out from under the car. Motor and tranny are out of the car. The engine turns now but needs to be rebuilt. Water only got into one cylinder and we were able to break it free with a torque wrench. I have quite a few new parts for the car. Carb, rear leaf springs/shocks, carpet. I have 2 sets of wheels. I also have a used set of Hooker header along with the stock manifolds. The original exhaust was trash. The original 15x7 gold snowflakes and the later design 80-81 15x7 snowlflakes with nearly new tires.

Looking to get $1750 for everything. Will consider a trade for LS1 performance parts. Pick up only. You would need a trailer of course and probably another truck to put all of the parts in.

In the shop when we started on it

Hail damage on hood

I sanded and repainted and coated the floor with rubberized undercoating. There were a few pinholes that were filled in.

This is as she sits now.

I believe it was around 120k. It's only 5 digits on these cars and I'm almost positive it didn't have 20k original miles although I guess it's possible. Everything except the exhaust, radio and tires were original.

I went and snapped some more pics today.

Here's the hole in the trunk. It's smaller than a dime. There is another on that's hard to see in the pic that is about the same size. These are the only holes I've seen.

Holes in the R/R quarter. They are all way smaller than a dime.

Previous body work from damage to driver's side. I uncovered this when I started sanding down the bondo.

Engine

New parts. Leaf springs/bushings, body mounts, rear shocks, intake gaskets, door handle cups, carpet.

Driver seat. It's in great shape, the cloth is just a bit faded in the center. It can be re-dyed. The other seats are in better shape than this one.

Door panel. They are very nice except for the piping that goes around the panel. It was chrome but that has peeled off and is now white.

TTT.

The car is still for sale. Made some progress on getting the rear back underneath the car today. I should have it rolling next weekend.

Default 78 Trans AM

I have been wanting a Trans Am Forever!!! I live in College Station and am interested in your car. I was wondering if you could go down on your price to around 1200. I live pretty far away and it will cost quite a bit to drive up there. Please let me know if your interested.
