Default 01-02 LS1's had smaller cams??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine#LS1

According to that article, 01-02 LS1's had slightly smaller cams to offset the addition of the LS6 intake and make power output the same as the 98-00 cars. I was always under the impression that the 01-02 cars, although rated the same as the older cars, made more power because everything was the same and they had a better flowing intake than the older cars. Is this claim that the article makes bogus or what?

Just bored and came across this and thought it was interesting..

It was also to offset some of the emmisions from also getting rid of the EGR... (Ls6 intake has no provisions)

yes the cam is smaller, but injectors are larger then the 99-00 models, 28.8 vs. 26 , but there is no doubt they make more power

04 gto's are cable like an f-body, it is essentially a 01-02 f-body motor.

So I have a 98-00 cam in my garage. Is it worth the trouble for me to install it into my 02 SS?

This is the cam in the link in my sig (yes, cheap, shameless plug for my stuff for sale)

stock to stock the 01-02's are still faster.

put an LS6 manifold on a 98-99. Thats the real difference maker.
