Default What do you guys think of the LS1 RX7 swap?

I found a pretty nice TII roller car on craigslist a couple of days ago.

From what I am reading and from some help from Brismo7 it sounds like the swap isn't too difficult.

What do you guys think.

I think I could get it all done for $5k.

from what i have read it always and i mean always ends up costing more them what you think it will. Personally i would do a early 74 datsun 280z swap because there will be no problems with smog.

FD > FC

the lines and the body of the FD are so much sexier.

Exactly what I was thinking. The engine and trans would go on here though

If you can really get a roller, engine, tranny, ECU, wire harness, and all of the other custom parts for the swap for $5k, then go for it. The power to weight ratio is awesome. My $0.02 is FD > any other RX7. Just be prepared to spend more time and money than originally planned. That's usually how it goes with conversions. I'll help.

I agree. I've had both and the FC really lacks taking off from a dig. The FD would cost alot more.

Well technically the take off won't matter because either choice would be getting a LS1 heart transplant. Yes, the FD will be a lot more, but the looks of it compared to the FC are much better. I'm sure you could find a roller somewhere.

It will matter. You can put much larger tires on the back of a FD then you can a FC. The only way to get big tires on the back of a FC is a wide body kit. There is also more wheel hop issues with a FC then a FD. I've owned 6 FC's and 1 1995 FD. The Fd is a better car in many different ways besides looks.
