Welcome Matt! There are a couple local clubs. I belong to AZFBA and we have a forum where you can also pose questions locally or looking for parts. Nic is who I would recommend for getting your car tuned. He is good and you can reach him at NicDtuning@gmail.com to ask him questions or set up an appointment to get a tune. There are local cruise ins around town on the weekends and usually plenty of car stuff going on in the winter. I am not too far from you and am in Mesa, and you can hit me up if you have any questions. There is also a bunch of guys locally to the phoenix area in this section of LS1tech so you are bound to get a reply to any questions you have here as well. Good luck and hope everything goes smoothly getting settled in!

Hi Matt! Did you happen to go to Neuqua Valley HS? I used to live in Naperville as well. I moved out here at the end of the summer in 2002.
For a tune I would also say go to NicD.
For parts it depends on what you are looking for but the western classified section on here as well as the classifieds on azfba.com are good places to start. For some things you might have to end up going to a dealership or buy something aftermarket though.
There are two clubs that I am aware of which are AZFBA (arizona f-body association) and AZLSXA (arizona lsx association). AZFBA members are generally on the east side of town.
On the weekends there are car shows/cruise ins around the valley. Friday night there is one on 91st ave and Northern behind Autozone. Saturday night there are two; one on the east side at Indian Bend just off the 101 freeway behind the McDonalds and one on the west side at 83rd Ave and Beardsley at Safeway.

yea they have cars around they are all set at 10 over basically so if you do 11 you'll get hit. The vans have signs up like 1000 ft out saying they are up ahead

I've never seen the cars.. I've only seen the actual unit stations on the side of the road and the vans.

Where did you hear it's 10mph over? I've been wondering this myself. because I usually just do 5 over and figure oh well, but was wondering what they actual look for.

Interesting. Thats good to know.

Yeah I got hit by one the vans near my house (randomly put there) doing 27 over a couple years ago. And I went to class for that without issue which was surprising because 27 over would be out of civil speeing range (18mph over)

Just about anything over in school zones they will get you for. I was in traffic school with an 80 year old lady that did 18mph in a 15mph, and they gave here a ticket

Damn. They been putting a van up by the school @ power/guadalupe. It goes from 45-35-25. I almost got hit up by it when it first started appearing, I was caught off guard. Yet it still avoids the construction, so I head that way.

On the news the other night they mentioned that people were using post it notes and silly string on the cameras off the highway. I found that amusing because I always want to hit them with a baseball bat.
