The pro flo has same lenght runners and its tunnel ram. The single plane dose not have equal lenght runners and the elbows used on them restrict air flow. The only downside to the proflo is that it requires cutting the cowl and loosing your wipers on a fbody. Hes doing the right thing by switching to a pro flo but it requires sacrifice.

 

Is there any documented tests that show that the rear cylinders don't run lean with the pro flo?

The pro flow can be modified with flow diverters to even out the air distrubution. The single plan intakes will only flow evenly if the air enters straight down but with an elblow it makes it not possible. This has been tested not with the pro flo but with other tunnel ram intakes.
