Has anyone in the OC added an aux input to the factory radio?
In case you don't know what I'm talking about:

I am wanting to get this done to both my 98 and 2000 and was wondering if anyone in the OC area has done it before. I think it's a great alternative to buying an adapter. I'm not that great with electronics and don't have a solder so I wanted some help with someone that has done it before or think they can get it done.
Let me know if anyone has experience in this...

I've done it. You should have asked me about that today... I bought a 2001 Monsoon HU with a broken CD drive and swapped over the CD drive and various buttons (undamaged ones) from my 1999 to get a working 00+ Delco HU for the Aux Input support to work.

The plug n play Aux Input adapters only work on 00+ headunits. There is one more way to get MP3 audio player input, but the results are far from desirable if you have an iPod.

When I have my stock 99 Monsoon, I used a hardwired FM modulator, which plugs in between the antenna input on the HU and the HU itself. Quality wasnt terrible from my iPod, and although it still wasnt great it was about the same quality as a cd on the monsoon. I still have the modulator, pulled it out when I installed my Kenwood double DIN. If anyone wants it ill let it go for $50, I bought it for $90 and only used it for 3 weeks. PM me if interested.

I haven't done it the way that's in the link you posted (although I could have)... Mainly because the results are less than desirable; you have to adjust the MP3 player volume as well as the car volume and quality isn't going to be as good as possible - although it is much better than using an FM modulator.
I actually obtained an iPod just to have it in the car with the aftermarket aux-input controller because I didn't want to go through all that work, cut into an OEM piece, and have to keep screwing with the volume and rummaging through a compartment to find the MP3 player to turn it on/off, change tracks, and recharge the battery...

I don't have a stereo anymore lol. It's pretty simple the hard part is getting the stereo apart.

This was a great post. I knew it was possible but didn't want to ruin a perfectly good stock radio. I put the phono plug in the center glove box and it sounds as good as cd.
Thanks again
total price 3 bux for switch and 4 I think for the cable.
