Is it a 350 or 305? What gearing does it have?

Well 350's dont come with 5 speeds, they made too much torque for the tranny to handle, so it probably not an original but still thats the set up I would want. If its a good deal I would still pick it up. What condition is it in? and how many miles are on it?

350's didn't come with convertibles either. Its possible that it can be an iroc with rear drum brakes but it should still have an iroc hood. Go to www.thirdgen.org/techboard in the history section and post your question. Also list the first 8 numbers of the vin and they'll decode it for u.

Nope, 5 speeds came with 305's exclusively. I've owned five of them. The 5.7's came with 700R4's only despite what anyone tries to tell you. That was my biggest complaint, I wanted a 350 with a 5 speed.

Here's what you need to know

http://www.thirdgen.org/1988-chevy-camaro

That would be awesome tho if it were a 350TPI 5speed, **** throw some gears on it and that thing will be pretty quick. If you do get it and it is a 350 than be easy on the trans. those t5's dont hold up to too much more power that what they are rated for(300LB torque)

Any pictures? G92 code would indicate that it has disk brakes which are garbage anyway. If you do end up getting it try and invest in a 1LE setup.

The car was originally a 305, the "F" as the 8th digit of the VIN tells us that. You can also check to see if the car was indeed originally a manual transmission by looking for the RPO code "MM5" which will be in the glovebox I believe, in an 88. That sucks about the hood, but more than likely it was in a wreck or something at one point and someone probably put on a standard RS/coupe flat hood.

The older pre-89 rear disc brakes were not so hot of a setup, but the disc brakes that came stock on any 89 and up 3rd gens were the same ones that 1LEs were equipped with. They were the PBR aluminum calipers.

I know that TPI TERROR knows this, but keep in mind that those digits are referring to TPI motors only. There are other codes that do designate other motors with other types of induction systems.

You are correct, 89 + brakes are brilliant.

Make sure it is a 350 since its real common with third gens that they tell u that it had a 350 swapped in and come to find out its a 305. For the price i'd buy it though

sounds like a good deal we got this one for 1700 but it didnt run and it only had a tbi auto. but with intake gaskets it ran and after we drove it we pulled that pile out and put a real engine in. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...swap-pics.html

Again, with the F as the 8th digit in the VIN it is a 305 TPI motor. Unless someone pulled the block and replaced it with a 350, treat it as it were a 305.
