Default Attn CA Truck Owners: Petition to remove commercial use fee from yearly registration

I have started a petition to have the commercial vehicle fee removed from trucks that are not used as a commercial truck. Here is a link to the petition:

http://www.petitiononline.com/windy520/petition.html

Please sign and spread the word. Thank you

Justin

Net number of signatures required: 8% of votes cast for Governor for a
constitutional amendment (670,816) and 5% for a statute (419,094)

According to this site

http://www.iandrinstitute.org/New%20...California.pdf

and this is the process:

Basic Procedures: The first step in the process of qualifying an initiative is to
write the text of the proposed law. The measure's proponents in many
cases may obtain assistance from the Legislative Counsel in drafting the
measure. To do so, the proponents must present the idea for the law to
the Legislative Counsel, and the request for a draft of the proposed law
must be signed by 25 or more electors. The Legislative Counsel will then
draft the proposed law if it is determined that there is a reasonable
probability the measure will eventually be submitted to the voters. The
draft of the proposed measure must then be submitted to the Attorney
General, who prepares the title and summary. The Attorney General
provides the Secretary of State with a copy of this title and summary within
15 days of the receipt of the final version of the measure. The Attorney
General works closely with proponents on this language, but gets the final
say.
If the Attorney General determines that the measure requires a fiscal
analysis, the Department of Finance and the Joint Legislative Budget
Committee are asked to prepare an analysis within 25 working days from
the date they receive the final version of the proposed initiative. The fiscal
analysis includes either the estimate of the amount of any increase or
decrease in revenues or costs to the state or local government, or an
opinion as to whether or not a substantial net change in state or local
finances would result if the proposed initiative is adopted. If, in the opinion
of the Dept. of Finance and the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, a
reasonable estimate of the net impact of the proposed initiative cannot
be prepared within the 25-day period, the Dept. of Finance and the
Budget Committee shall, within the 25-day period, give the Attorney
General their opinion as to whether or not a substantial net change in the
state or local finances would result if the proposed initiative is adopted.
The fiscal analysis is then included in the official summary. (If a fiscal
estimate is required, the Attorney General shall prepare the title and
summary within 15 days after receipt of the estimate prepared by the
Dept. of Finance and the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.)
When the official summary is complete, the Attorney General sends it
to the proponents, the Senate, the Assembly, and the Secretary of State. It
is at this time that proponents can begin circulating. It generally takes 30-
45 days between submitting an initiative and approval for circulation.
The Legislature may conduct public hearings on the proposed
initiative, but cannot amend it.

You need to contact your local government office and ask for petition guidelines. Then you need to collect REAL signatures from registered voters.

Why are online petitions full of crap? Because anyone can go on and sign it 1000 times. Which is why congressmen pretty much ignore online petitions.

Just trying to save you from wasting your time, it seems like a worthy cause.

This is exactly what I am trying to prevent. But I am going to need to collect over 600,000 signatures. I cant do this alone, and I am going to need help doing it. I can probably get a petition form ready, and post the page online for others to print out and help me get sigs.

What about contacting dealerships, they might be able to give you a list of truck owners or help you spread the lists. You could also post up some lists at gas pumps.

If you put a bed cover on your truck you can register it as a non-commercial vehicle. Soft or hard cover doesnt matter.

You can already legally remove the commercial part. This was brought up on another forum I visit for my F350 dually. I pay 250.00 a year in insurance and pay almost $500.00 in tags. Ryne is right but we have been told if you remove it or are carrying a load you will be cited by CHP if caught. They can also tell by looking at a plate if it is registered commercial. Commercial plate will read 1AA1111, non commercial light passenger vehicle will be 1AAA111.

Yes you can, but who wants to put a shell on their truck. It takes up so much visability, and if I remember the law correctly, it states that the bed of your truck is for living quarters. There is even a space requirement that is needs to be met.

I will see if I can post this up at gas pumps as well.

i just bought an 02 f250 diesel so i'm all for removing the commercial fee. A bed cover won't work for me since I always have a couple street bikes or dirt bikes on the bed of my truck. My previous truck came with a bed cover when I bought it and it spent more time leaned up against my garage then on the truck. I hated that damn thing. I would go months without putting nothing on the bed and it seemed that as soon as I would put it back on I needed to take it off for one thing or another lol

I just hate how much visability they take up. I cant put a shell on mine either as I have an 05 GSXR 600.
