I've been around for the all the big earthquakes here in SoCal since the 70's. It's great to be prepared for such a major disaster but realistically in order to have all the survival items you mention at your disposal you'll have to have multiple survival bags nearly everywhere which isn't practical in daily life.
All you can hope for is that luck will be on your side in the event of such a major disaster and you be at the right place at the right time to utilize it. I think the essentials would be money, clothes, survival foods and one huge gun and ammo that will sustain you for 4 or 5 days.

I personally have the one major bag at home with other supplies at home.
I then have a GTFO bag in the car which is just a more condensed version (a sweater, a t-shirt, water bladder, lighter, coast guard ration bars and a gun with ammo all cali legally carried, etc...) which is basically there for this situation which most people don't consider...
You live in the Valley, you're running an errand in Santa Monica. Earthquake hits, a big one. Your car is inoperable (accident, road collapsed in front of it, etc...) you need to get home and everywhere is disaster.
You need protection (gun) and water mainly but a couple other things are nice.
Now, not only do you have your preps but also a great story line for "Escape from LA 2010" starring "That guy from General Hospital and Scaretactics!!!"

i agree with the 686, I shot a Taurus .357 w/4" barrel a few weeks back, i shot it better than my pistols (M&P 40, the 1911, and Beretta 92FS-P 9mm) excluding the 9mm and have been told the 686 is night and day to the Taurus; and well, it's S&W and not Taurus..so it's on a short "need to buy" list
and Mark and his pack won't stand a chance against an AR-15 . My next project since my M4 is done is an AR-10/308; haven't decided if I want to go Armalite or DPMS though..oh, and of course the constant hobby: BUY MORE AMMO

Well the upper is century arms the lower is hesse. We bought it in 99 in turners. So we can have the pistol grip and 20 round mags with no mag lock. My dad gave it to me. It has the utg scope mount, and I have a quad rail on the way. Its a good rifle leaves me death and sore for a day or two but I don't mind.
