Cool Spy Shots: 556-hp Supercharged 2012 Camaro Z28

But how do we know what's under the hood?

The shooters caught the high-po Camaro with its passenger door open, and stuck on the plastic dash is a piece of paper that reads "2012 Chevrolet Camaro, 6.2L SC V8, 6AT." Break that down and it means the Z/28 is packing the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 LSA fitted to the 556-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V, mated to a six-speed automatic. Naturally, a proper manual will be available as well when the Z/28 goes on sale sometime next year.

Don't worry the 6th gen will drop a few hundred pounds. I just read somewhere they are thinking of postponing the Z28 for the new chassis as it will be not only smaller but lighter.

On a side note, i'm really diggin those wheels!

Bry is right. What's weird is a 4 door full iron motor impala weighs 41xxlbs and the 2 door cars nowadays are weighing the same.

Why the hell are newer cars getting heavier and heavier, is it all the safety crap they have to conform to?

I seriously would not care if ther was only one air bag on the driver and a passenger side thats it. No side airbags, period.

Hummm maybe instead of making cars safer, we should make drivers better

But yeah that will never happen.

There is a bolt-on 630 ish rwhp car!!! that would be sweet!

Hopefully the crate engine price drops for this motor. Would love to see one in a 4th gen if somebody can make it work.

Not really... automakers don't feel like putting thought into how to keep the car light. It's easier to just stuff a larger motor and crow about big HP numbers and 0-60 times. I know it's funny coming from a 5th gen owner, but if f Lotus can make a car that weighs 1975 lbs. and conforms to safety regs, there's no reason other manufacturers can't keep a car below 4000 lbs.

There a couple out there, they have been posted on here as a matter of fact. There is also a white 3rd gen with a LS swap topped with L92 heads and a LS9 blower.

Actually there is a huge CF movement going on right now among the ranks. Ford is in the process of working out a deal with another manufacturer to supply them with CF parts. BMW just bought a factory and built a mass production Kiln, they want to incorporate it into even lower end models. If you look at it as a whole, it looks like a trend is coming about to lower the price of CF for mass use across the board.

To me it just makes more sense having a lighter car- less materials, better gas milage, etc.

That's cool. The ZR1 had a lot of carbon fiber but I think it still weighed more than the Z06
