but what you implied in your post was that i am not as good as Greg, i have heard great things about gregs ford tuning, i cant comment on his gm tuning, never seen his work.

It seems like most people in this thread think you have a LS1? A 1997 with basic bolt ons would have a LT1. Having a LT1 I think the software you are limited to would be the LT1edit, I don't even know if tunercat will work with the OBDII LT1 PCMs.
Your best bet for tuning would be to do the OBD I conversion and then use Tunercat on it. The cable will cost you $100 but I think the Tunercat software is free for OBD I stuff for at least 30 days.
Some guys also put LS based PCMs in their LT1 cars but the conversion is a lot more difficult and only beneficial if you have a high hp stroker or forced induction setup.

So I called Greg at RET and he was a very nice guy, but can anyone explain why is costs $350 to dyno-tune a near-stock LT1? and please do not overwhelm me with a bunch of technical crap to make this post look ignorant.

Around 20WHP gains, not too much, just a smoother engine and quicker pickup.

Well, I would say between $100 and $200, for only 2 hours of labor at most... it shouldnt be much more...

your paying for a specialty, there are no book hours for tuning, i would have actually charged you more.. when a doctor performs surgery do you pay him less because the surgery only took an hour?? no he is a specialist those are his rates, same goes for tuning...

Dang, guess I should go back to Colorado. Well, if there is any good thing to see out of this, it is that these forums are way more awake than LS1/LT1Tech

Call around and you'll find that is actually a good price.

I'd say 350 is a great price. By the time you buy the cable/software someone is in at least $200, then the dyno rental would, by itself, be $100/hr and then its up the the tuner to charge what he feels his time/knowledge is worth. Thats basically how tuning breaks down.
