A very good friend works the border and trust me a lot happens that doesn't get media attention. I went often in the past but not lately.he has family in mexico that I would like to visit and even they tel me not to come. If you do make sure to keep a low profile and be prepared to bite your tongue

If you plan on driving four hours from Tucson, just head west and go to the beaches in Southern Cali.
Which part of Mexico did u go to? Seems kinda stupid u would label ALL of Mexico as filthy trshy and filled with drugs and violence.. Kinda like saying "I would never go back to the US. It's filthy trashy and filled with drugs and violence" if I only went to some tore up town.. Sounds stupid huh?

Your comparison is nonsensical.

I think it is appropriate to affix this label considering the only recommendations given in this thread were to either "lay low" or not go at all, which speaks volumes in itself. The majority of areas that someone from the U.S. would drive through or visit would be one or all of which I have listed, considering Mexico IS an underdeveloped country.

If you cross in to Mexico at the AZ border you'll be driving through all the tore up towns to get to any of the tourist riddled places....sounds logical huh?

Would I be better off just driving to California?

Edit: I will not be in the T/A but in a rental car therefore will not be able to out run any mexican mobs.
Good read..seems like Tijuana MX is safer then Detroit.... http://local.msn.com/article.aspx?cp...4298&gt1=24000

I dont mean this is a negative way at all but i would venture to say most of the people saying it is safe are either pretty familiar with mexico or of mexican/latin decent so that helps them a lot. Being a white american down there that speaks no spanish and is not familiar with the area is not a good thing right now.
