So my z28 is spitting out 3rd gear and I'm tired of holding it. So anyone know a good shop that can rebuild it.. Any info is going to help! Thanks

It's not 3rd that goes out, either the shift fork bends or most likely key went out. I just finished rebuilding my 3rd one and the 3rd gear key broke. Might as well rebuild it while it's out.

 

yeah, it makes no sense to tear the tranny down then only replace one part. rebuild it for reliability and peace of mind. +1 for johhny @xtreme

I rebuilt my trans myself with the Viper 3-4 shift fork, billet keys, new 3rd gear, carbon syncros and new bearings for less that 400. They are easy to do, you just need the right equipment, manual and common sense.

 

I think you should be more specific. You replaced your stock 3/4 fork for a steel shift for and you billet keys were for 3/4. Some people that don't know about the pricing or parts of the t56 transmissions could get the wrong idea about how much it costs to do what your saying. Doing a viper main shaft, billet keys and bronz pads 1-R and carbon blocker rings with a steel 3/4 fork is a little different and doesn't cost anywhere close to $400...

For anyone looking on help that want to do a t56 by them selves feel free to call me. I have helped a lot of people rebuild there transmissions. Im a big fan of doing things yourself, just know what your doing and getting yourself into before messing something up. So hit me up for questions. I also have all the tools for rent also if you want to do it yourself. Hydrolic press, bearing pullers, slides, hammers, snapring pliers ect.

I'm not trying to take anything from any shops that rebuilds transmissions. Take it to a pro if you don't know what your doing. You pay those prices because of there tools, experience and knowledge.

 

I had to replace 3rd gear because of the same problem you had (could have reused it but didnt want to chance it as there was a little bit of damage when looking in a magnifying glass). I rebuilt everything as its not worth having to pull the trans and go back through it because you didnt do a full rebuild. I bought my parts at thegearbox.org (stage 2 upgrade kit) and had a very noligeable friend do the build for me. I spent around $1000 total paying my buddy $225 for the labor etc. Trans is still running very strong without any issues.

 

True. Unless u are on a budget. And to take off that tranny isn't hard at all. Neither is re-doing a single gear. But yes for peace of mind it's better to do all. Keep in mind that 2-3-4 take the most beating
