I can't find the specific article where i read it but these corvette guys are referring to it. Sorry it wasn't laguna seca, and it was a 1LE SS, but it was GM engineers test drivers that found this to be true.

"There's nothing that I left out of the equation or the comparison. Let me clarify once again... a stock 1LE equipped Camaro SS was consistently faster around Spring Mountain and GM's Milford Proving Grounds than a stock C5 Z51 Corvette with the same driver. Period."
I'll keep looking for the specific article I originally seen this quote.

If memory serves, in 2001 when GM went to the LS6 intake manifold, they changed the F-body cam to a "truck cam" to decrease the output. They didnt want to boost the hp to anywhere near what the Corvette put out.

You're right. The LS1 in 2001 and 2002 received the LQ4 cam. Not sure if that affects the power or not, because the LS1's in 2001 and 2002 from what most people say have a lot more ***** than the '98-'00 LS1's.

I heard that some LS1's in 2001 and 2002 received the LS6 block, but this gave no increased power output, power stayed the same. Also read that the LS6 block wasn't as sturdy or as strong as the LS1 block. The oil passages and breathing may be true, I am not sure.

Not saying it made more hp, just a better block. I have a few books on LS1's that state the the LS6 is actually a stronger block. It has better webbing in the block for added rigidity and strength. I'll get the book and post it later if anyone wants to look it up.

You couldn't prove it to me by the dyno numbers..Numbers were almost exactly the same as a WS.6..1/4 mile times were the same too. Lets face it, my $60 cutout and $100 air lid gave me just as much power as a $600 SLP exhaust & $300 air lid & filter. Who came out ahead? LOL

Your cutout only cost $60? I'm curious...what does a cut-out do exactly? And how much HP will it net you?

That's not really enough to make a difference in a race vs another LS1. It's basically a driver's race. Just like a Z28 can beat an SS.
But hey, every small mod helps, if that improved CAI and exhaust gets you 10-15 HP more than a stock LS1, that's a step in the right direction.

I think my 30th has a higher resale value than a Hawk. It just depends on the buyer.
A cutout bypasses the muffler. I didn't personally do a dyno test, but have seen numerous others net 10rwhp. Mine is called a "Zed" style cutout, It is uncorked right before the muffler, Surprised you have not heard of a "cutout" WhiteKnight, It has been around for years.

With the improved CAI and the improved exhaust you aren't getting that big of an HP increase from a regular Z28 or SS, you might be getting 10, maybe 15 tops.

I've never seen anything huge come out of a cut out. No big deal to me. And aren't you new to V8's? So now is the time to tell you... Ls1 is an ls1
