The new 5.0 is not a joke, a friend has a stock auto 5.0 and he ran 8.3 at 91mph. Tire, intake, exhaust, and tune gets then in the 11.6 11.7 times. I hand it to ford they have been making some great cars, I am a car guy, if its quick its good. Plus the mustang interior is more comfortable at least to me.

Your friend sounds like a dooooosh Adam.

Oh, tell Nordy I said hi!!

yeah thats gonna get them, though a 4200 pound sedan is more acceptable than a 4200 pound coupe.

Don't the new SRT8s run something like 12.8 in the quarter?

8.3@91 at Irwindale? and those mods alone dont automatically make them run 11.6-11.7 it takes alot of skill most guys will see 12.3-12.5 with those listed mods.

srt8 cost 44k
base gt 29k
base ss 31k

yep they are meant to go against the base model cars. The problem with the srt8 is for 4 grand more you get a gt500 which is a better car all around.

Thats just how I look at it bro.

Thats only if you use the base models but there is no base SRT8 so that should be the R/T. the GT500 is faster but looks and total package goes to the SRT8 line up in my opinion they are far more superior in the features that are offered.

the SRT8 should be compared to the 5.0 Cali Special and the Loaded 10'SS. The R/T is in the same class and price range as the base models. When the 2013 Supercharged 392 comes out it will be compared to the GT500 and ZL1. A non tuned SC 392 just made 588 rwhp so it will be up there with the GT500.

As you know, the blogs lit up with the announcement of the new 650-horsepower Mustang GT500, and I wanted to give you my perspective on the latest challenge from Dearborn.

The Mustang has been playing catch up since the moment the fifth-gen Camaro arrived in 2009. Since then, Camaro has been the best-selling sports car in America, indicating that consumers know which car offers the best performance, style and safety.

It is no coincidence that Mustang has introduced three 100-horsepower increases to keep pace with Camaro: First their V-6 was bumped to 305; then their V-8 went to 412, and now the GT500.

Even with the 100-hp increase, the 2013 GT500 will still not match the technology and sophistication of the 2012 Camaro ZL1.

The days of “no replacement for displacement,” are over, and it’s not enough to be fast in a straight line. With the Camaro ZL1, we set out to deliver integrated performance, and be equally good at acceleration, braking, grip, and turning. As you will soon see, that’s why the Camaro ZL1 will set the performance benchmark for the segment.

Our approach was to make every Camaro ZL1 fully track-capable, from the factory. As we announced today, the ZL1 Coupe will start at $54,995 with standard Magnetic Ride Control, standard Performance Traction Management, and standard track-capable equipment such as a rear-differential cooler, brake cooling ducts, and an engine and transmission cooler.

None of our customers will have to buy extra options – or modify their ZL1 – for track-day usage. That is not the case for the current GT500, or their new car.

For Mustang fans, you’re welcome. Clearly the Camaro has encouraged Ford to throw everything they can at us.

For Camaro fans, trust me, we are always listening to your feedback, and working hard to keep the Camaro in the lead.

Al O."
And how many YEARS was GM playing catch-up since they didn't even have a dog in the race after 2002? GM should acknowledge that. Ford had little competition so no pressure to produce something great, but at least Ford kept producing, credit to them.

That's because the SRT8 is not a vehicle, so it can't have a base model. That's like saying "my Supersize does not come any smaller". Well, your fries do.

A better comparison would be to the Boss 302 and the GT500 given the SRT8 is priced close to both of those and the SRT8 is the top dog of whatever model its in (Challenger, Charger).

Well seeing as how his is an auto, it should be fully capable. I don't know if you know but I am at the track every week new mustangs run about the same times as my car with the Mods I stated. Auto 5.0s are consistent. I run 7.5@ 92 my best was 7.42 at 92.5. My buddy was getting I believe 1.9x 60' so he had more to gain with tire.

tree'd. performance is performance. the 5.0 performs, as does the gt500, as will the new one.

kind of reminds me of the old shootout. colettie vs moss, GM and Ford should do the same type of thing again. Think there are a couple of parts to the vid, shitty quality also.

Dude your trying to compare fords biggest guns to a family car. your a tool.
And for quality your going to have to pay a lil more. If the GT500 interior is as bad as the new 5.0 then its pretty sad. And remember your comparing a sports car to a family car. Im a GM guy and i would take the 392 charger over the camaro anyday.

Can it even be considered "From Factory" if the car is sent out to Shelby to get all the work done? Wouldn't that be similar to Chevy sending a Camaro to Lingenfelter?
