Default salvege title options

Well I just had the car for about a month got rear ended and Honda pilot sat on it...long story short the body damage out weighs the cars value...does this give me more options to drop a 6.0l in it and be legal if the title becomes a salvage? I think all I would have to do is keep the smog equipment that the 6.0 came with and get a BAR inspection...ya I am in cali...btw first post so I am pretty proud of myself...was hoping the first post would be showing off the 6.0 swap w out this crashing business but whatcha gunna do...

Salvage title/body damage is not gonna help you with anything smog/emissions related.

And putting a 6.0 in place of the 5.7 block is no big deal as long as all of your smog equipment is in place... bite your lip through out the smog test, the smog tech wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

thanks for the reply, I thought it might help them assume I yanked a gutted car from a junk yard...it is a base v6 though So I think at a minimum I am looking at having a new vin issued to reflect the v8? and for sure mum is the word on that one

As we all know, A V8 LS1 engine was a factory option for Camaro/Firebird. Smog techs could care less if it started as a V6, and they dont care about sub models such as Z28, Trans Am, SS, etc. For example, if you had a 98 base model V6 Camaro and then swap a 98 LS1 motor in it, as long as all of the 98 V8 emissions equipment is present, hooked up and working you could bring it into any smog station and smog it as a normal V8 car without any issues.

Cool

that is great, you just saved me a lot of heart ache, I am about half way ready to start the swap Ill just save the cool guy bolt on stuff till after it goes threw smog Unless I miss understood what I read online as long as the donor engine is not out of 1/2 ton or heavier truck its ok? The donor engine and harness are out of a 02 avalanche? Either way its gonna happen I just want it to be as painless as possible on the legal side of the swap

Are you sure its a 6.0 and not a 5.3 on the Avalanche?

You are going to need a harness & computer from a V8 Camaro if you want it to work. The avalanche comp & harness won't connect with any of your gauges or smog equip.

Not many Avalanches were 6.0. So you may want to double check. Just remember when you smog, dont say its a 5.3 or 6.0. Just let them do their thing.

6.0 wasn't an option until 2007, if the motor is out of an 02 it's most likely a 5.3. Keep us posted on how the build goes

True. The few 2500 Avalanches you see are 8.1's prior to 07.

So if the motor is really a 6.0, its probably out of a pickup instead.

Would it still be a ls3 engine? despite what it came out of, if in fact it is the 6.0? Long gone are the days of just a 350 short block lol

It will get you by fine for now. 3.42s are a great gear for an auto, but if you have a manual transmission the 3.42s are what come stock. What are your plans for the car? Cruiser? Corner carver? Drag racer?

sorry been busy, I did confirm that its a 6.0 so I am happy. I want reliability over all, but it will see heavy dd duty so carving up some corners is what I am going for. I already had some sub frame connecters hooked up, slapped a new harwood 2.5 cowl on it looks good I do owe it some paint though. and ya it is a auto, and I plan on keeping it that way
